The Pulse Nightclub guy only had one gun as far as I have been able to determine and he shot over 200 rounds. Thank god it isn’t just rapid fire rifles we restrict but anyone having THAT many bullets would be on a watch list as well. Our laws seem to weed out those who only want to have a gun so they have something long and hard to fondle in a corner.

But then we Aussies never really seem to lack courage - I mean how much courage does it take to go after a knife wielding maniac with a plastic chair and determination? He could have stayed back given that the female cop was ahead of him but he ran in anyway just in case as did the others you can see in the video. Hope their mates buy all of them a drink or two eh?

Considering that school shootings have continued to rise regardless of armed guards I would suggest that your premise of “scaring away” shooters may be invalid. BTW if you are going to debunk a study the critique it don’t just criticise it. I can teach people the basics of critiquing research

Meanwhile elsewhere in the world there hasn’t been the same rise.

The U.S. crime rate is still dropping, FBI data shows

The new fourth-quarter numbers showed a 13% decline in murder in 2023 from 2022, a 6% decline in reported violent crime and a 4% decline in reported property crime.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/crime-courts/us-crime-rate-still-dropping-says-fbi-rcna144100

You've either misread the study or you don't understand it.

    But I don't care.

Like all Pro 2A's, you dismiss any scientific evidence that contradicts your narrative.

Reality has no hold on you.

What the incident does- is confirm what thinking people already know, in that murder is not caused by the choice of weapons, but by the mindset of the murderer.
Ask yourself how many more people this man may have killed if that female officer he was charging at the time did not have a gun. She was alone; if he had taken her down, he would have continued.
Stabbing victims actually have a lower survival rate than gunshot victims, and the person with a knife never runs out of ammunition. Ugly as it is to some, the most dangerous weapon is a human being.

    In 2016-
At least 19 people were killed and 26 injured in a stabbing spree at a facility for disabled people west of Tokyo, making it one of Japan’s deadliest mass killings since World War II. Nine men and 10 women, ranging in age from 18 to 70, were killed in the attack.

    Sure.

Stephen Paddock could easily have killed 50 people with a knife from his hotel room window....

SHE ran towards HIM. Plus there were multiple people who stood and fought - a guy with a bollard, a guy with a chair who chased after him and several ready to kick seven kinds of ***** out of him. WE do not need more guns because WE believe that the more guns there are out there the more nutters like this guy can get access, try looking at the videos I posted

and it is complete and utter bulltwang that knives have a higher mortality rate - not even going to research that twaddle

God hope you never need one. Defensive firearms are like parachutes. If you need one and don't have one, chances are you will never ever need one again

    Yep! Murphy’s law rules
    upload_2024-4-15_0-45-59.jpeg

You can religiously wear a gun 24/7 (and we all thank heavens we don’t have to - what a sodding inconvenience!!) but it would be the one day / moment/ time you do not have one that you would need it. We prefer to use what is at hand

    upload_2024-4-15_0-50-31.png

Only 5.1% of active shooter incidents were stopped by the “good guy with a gun” as opposed to 9.7% who were stopped by unarmed civilians

The killer was a reported funny boy so that is why likely his if that is what he identifies as for his dislike of women and Muslims.

why does everyone who deals with criminals professionally go armed? look, it get that you are afraid of guns and afraid that if you had to use one, you'd screw up. that's why I fully support the right of people like you to be unarmed. It's your choice. But I tire of people who are ignorant projecting their limitations on people like me. And as I noted, your statistics are worthless because armed intervention usually prevents the shooter from killing "enough" people for it to be called a "mass shooting"

Because they are dealing with criminals  why do doctors wear stethoscopes?
Now here we are on a thread about an incident in Australia and somehow I am “projecting my limitations”

if you cannot defend your stance then it is not worthwhile

So? If I remember correctly this discussion started with you telling Bushlawyer that no one could kill “hundreds” of people. I proved that the pulse night club killer discharged over 200 bullets

Since only 5% of active shooters re stopped by a “good guy with a gun” the fact that it was a gun free zone was irrelevant

what he could have done is fly one of the two planes he owned into that crowd and killed 4X as many people.

that's so inane I am laughing. Your argument starts with the fact you admitted you didn't like the NRA lampooning the idiotic Australian response to a shooting. So you come here and bash American gun ownership. Your arguments about public safety are a facade trying to legitimatize your vexation with our NRA. Your advice about how to stay safe is not based on even a mistaken but good faith belief, but rather a completely worthless view that is based on your anti gun desires.

you obviously know nothing about average hit ratios and lethality of small arms. None of those people were allowed to be armed in that nightclub since it served alcohol

And that is irrelevant since research shows that only 5% of active shooter incidents are stopped by armed persons nearby. In fact there is evidence that more guns = more confusion with many respondents with guns trying to be the “good guys” have been shot

That is just as valid as your argument that a magical and mythical “good guy with a gun” would solve all miss shootings
