That would be interesting if in the practice of their atheism their actions unwittingly acceed to a power greater than themselves. (the billboard) In some ways, I guess they are better off than the true atheists who aren't driven by an inexplicable need for close proximity to Christians. I've compared this in the past to people who have a serious medical condition and hang around a hospital because the healthy part of them informs them that's where they need to be, but they fight the doctors and rail against any medical treatment offered because the unhealthy part of them holds sway.

 

Agreed, but theists have to desire to be cured first. Instead, they delight in their false reality, in much the same way a child will play pretend nonstop, or a hardcore Dungeons and Dragons player will assume their character's persona for daily use, so too the theist enjoys, revels, in their delusion.

When you compound that with a deep-seeded and unrecognized fear of being mortal; that there is probably no afterlife; that they don't get to skip down gold streets and eat manna forever, and that the consequence of being wrong is eternal torture in unfathomable misery, the ability to step away from the "happy ignorance" is difficult.
