Free meals for all Detroit schoolchildren in fall

I have no problem with feeding the kids but we have to find out the cause and go from there, there are some that could just plain be broke without family support , we can not let them strave , then there others who just use the system and free food for the kids equals a bag of weed , I know I have seen it here in Maine , these fruitcakes need jail time and the kids sent to a decent home with values

It's the Detroit News article but the numbers are for the State of Michigan. Ah, yes, the Recovery Summer that Obama/Biden are so proud of. Maybe President Obama's latest secret plan, the one for jobs, will actually include tax cuts and reducing the unrestrained growth of regulations.

 

This comment was completely incoherent. Who is starving? Where was that in this story? And where did oil companies come into play in the story?

 

Yep, food is free. Labor is free. Everything just magically appears in liberal land! Again, refer to my previous post. $4 per student per day, per 180 days. Approximately 150,000 students in Detroit. Do the f'n math. Wait, dumb request, I'll do it for you: $108,000,000 per year. In a city that's completely broke. And all because these genetic defective parasite parents have kids they know (*)(*)(*)(*) well they can't afford to take care of, and the braindead idiot liberals who cater to them for votes. Why aren't their parents providing them with food before school and a lunch to take to school? Why are other people expected to provide it from their earnings instead?

 

OH geez now you opened a can of worms. Now the left will demand meals on wheels service during the summer so the parents don't have to feed them.

 

Not funny, it will come to this I guarantee it!!!

We'll have adult and "Feed the chilren" free meals.

Pretty soon all charities will be taken over by the government. We won't need any more soup kitchens or homeless shelters run by churches or other organizations. Everything will be taken care of with a government issued debit card.

If there are so many kids receiving free meals at their local schools, then should their families' food stamps allocation be cut to commensurate for the meals that the kids are receiving at school? Why should the government pay twice to feed the same child?

 

Feeding the poor kids who actually ned the help? No problem at all.

Feeding the poor AND the well off....simply because you don't want the poor kids to "feel bad" is a bad idea.

First off it's bad financially to be feeding those who don't need the help, especially in a City like Detroit that isn't in good financial shape.

Secondly, what some call feelings, others call drive. When you feel bad about something or your situation, it usually makes a person work harder to rise above it. When we start telling ourselves that any feeling other than the good ones, shouldn't be felt we are in a way killing their drive to excel. Why should they? Someone will come with a handout.

This is precisely what some, usually the left, find to be an acceptable path. No responsibility for yourself, or your lot in life...keep the handout lines long and that handout mentality strong.


"Feeling Bad" is a good thing, it gives you the drive to excel, which obviously goes against the grain with what the left would like to see. Keep everyone looking for that government dole.

He'll yes it happens. As a former state employee, I use to watch "poor" folks pull up in Yukons, Escalades, Benz with tinted windows and rims and tires looking for Section 8 housing. Yeah, you can't afford a house b/c you bought a 50,000 dollar car. So now they need government assistance.

So when I see people talking about kids starving I have to laugh b/c seeing what we call poor in this country is a joke. Somehow all these "poor, starving" kids can't make it to pay for their own school lunches, but they make it through the summer every year, which begs the question: How?

This is an excuse to stick people on welfare rolls. If you can't afford, 1.50 a day to eat school lunch you are a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing worthless parent b/c I guaran(*)(*)(*)(*)tee ya the parents of these kids we call "poor" aren't poor at all.

The number of people who honestly can't spend $1.50 a day, doesn't go to school to begin with.

 

You're right, the "poor" people in this country would be wealthy in many others. Everyone needs some perspective. People should complain less. Everyone.

 

I didn't mean literally put them to work, I meant make them work for as in doing an assignment to TEACH them.

If you are so concerned about these children, get our your check book and start paying for them. What's that? Yeah, it's ok when it's someone else's money but when you have to pay for it out of your pocket the excuses will fly.

 

No they shouldn't be punished, but why should I be punished for irresponsible people's mistakes? Why increase my taxes to pay for kids that aren't mine?
