A person is justified in breaking the law if that law threatens their life or livly hood in my personal opinion. If the choice is commit fraud or continue living in a city ruled by a drug cartel...show me to my fake ID and hand me my fence cutters because I'm crossing the border.

So if a person is starving, they are justified in caving your skull in to get your food stamps, wallet and cash?

We can't close the border, and we can't stop businesses from hiring illegals, but magically, we can stop all under the table labor and create an increased wage for illegal aliens. I expect this frustration in teaching my children when they fail to see something completely obvious.

Yeah. Employers will stop paying illegals cash, illegals will gladly accept documented income so that all of those benefits for their anchor babies dry up, it will cost nothing for the government to attempt to maintain a level income for illegals regardless of the program requiring funding to infinitum, and we all live happily ever after.

We can't stop outsourcing. Not directly. You can't tell a business who they can hire. But you can make hiring locally more appealing. Or you can invest heavily in educating the American worker so that we can bring back high tech manufacturing and make it so that no other country can do what we do.

High tech industry, jobs that require college degrees are our economy for the most part. The probelm is, the lack of them. For instance Engineering.

There is a never ending torrent of ignorance and poverty that will move north whenever the American economy creates low skilled jobs. The torrent will go on and on and on. It won't stop until Mexico and America are at the same level. Then it won't make economic sense to cross the border illegally into America.

...it's not the illegal's fault, it's the employer that hires him/her...it's like trying to justify adultry, "well, she was there, I was there and we were both willing, so it's ok"...things are either right or wrong, there's no in between...

Employers are going to do whatever they can get away with for a profit. And when you create a system where workers cannot report worker right violations because if they do they will be deported then you create a safe haven for law breaking employers to hire cheap (slave) labor. What do they have to lose? No one else is hiring these people so their workers are desperate. And even if they do stand up they risk getting deported for doing so. So who's going to report them to authorities?

Until we offer freedom to work in America policies in this country we will never eliminate the underground slave labor market.

I'm sorry, but I disagree. As an Employer we don't do whatever we can get away with. As an employer you live in fear that you did something wrong and don't know it yet. If you are smart, you follow all the laws to the T. Trust me, if you don't own your own business its hard to understand. We are going into our 6th year now. And hopefully we'll make it through this depression.

    Concerning indentured servants.

    Excerpt:

    http://www.ushistory.org/us/5b.asp

This system seemed to benefit the servant as well. Each indentured servant would have their fare across the Atlantic paid in full by their master. A contract was written that stipulated the length of service — typically five years. The servant would be supplied room and board while working in the master's fields.

Upon completion of the contract, the servant would receive "freedom dues," a pre-arranged termination bonus. This might include land, money, a gun, clothes or food. On the surface it seemed like a terrific way for the luckless English poor to make their way to prosperity in a new land. Beneath the surface, this was not often the case.

Only about 40 percent of indentured servants lived to complete the terms of their contracts. Female servants were often the subject of harassment from their masters. A woman who became pregnant while a servant often had years tacked on to the end of her service time. Early in the century, some servants were able to gain their own land as free men.

But by 1660, much of the best land was claimed by the large land owners. The former servants were pushed westward, where the mountainous land was less arable and the threat from Indians constant.

A class of angry, impoverished pioneer farmers began to emerge as the 1600s grew old. After Bacon's Rebellion in 1676, planters began to prefer permanent African slavery to the headright system that had previously enabled them to prosper.

    Further more!

A lot of my time is spent making sure I'm complying with all regulations. From labor regulations to OSHA, etc... Hiring illegals would be the last thing any sane employer would want to do.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to generalize so much. I'm sure most employers follow the law to the T and are happy to do so. But there are enough employers who don't to keep the underground labor market alive and kicking for centuries under these policies. And there is little anyone can do to stop that if we continue to make it illegal for people to work as they please in America. It's the perfect crime. No one to report you. And plenty of profit to be made.
