Bring our troops back from the Middle East, have them defend our borders and country from the invasion next door?I live near the border and the crap is spilling into U.S. soil.Hospitals here in Texas are treating victims of the cartel violence. What do you all think?I would love to see our boys defending our land HERE at the border.

Perry open to sending U.S. troops to Mexico

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (AP) – Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he is open to sending American troops to Mexico to help battle drug cartels.

Perry, the Texas governor, likens the situation to Colombia, where the government accepted American military support in battling the war on drugs.

Perry says the current violence may require similar military action.

He often calls for more National Guard troops to help protect the Mexican border and stem the flow of illegal immigration. But Saturday's comments go further. They indicate he's open to deepening America's military involvement across the border.

Perry's comments came at a Saturday afternoon reception at the home of New Hampshire Republican gubernatorial candidate Ovide Lamontagne.

A spokesman later clarified that Perry is open to all options to cooperate with Mexico.

Obama and the Feds are ignoring the situation here. Its getting very bad.Im not agreeing to a full on invasion of Mexico, but a huge military presence and a Mexico-U.S. joint mission to combat these cartels. Its not about drugs anymore, this is turning into a full scale civil war in Mexico, and we need to curb it before it spills even worse into the U.S.

I would be impressed if any president did something like this.

Why? Because both parties are influenced by industries that benefit from illegal labor.

When you consider how much of the agricultural sector uses illegals, then you start to realize how both parties are beholden to at least inadvertently supporting open borders and semi-amnesty.

If Perry became president and actually militarized our Mexican border, I would be utterly amazed.

It would probably be the only thing he would do that I would agree with.

Perry and Romney are too much like "W" and O'bama for my taste. Vote Cain. We need a real American with true principles. Not a warmongerer or a pansy assed progressive leftist loser like our last two presidents.

No, it's not. We would have to legalize all drugs coming from Mexico, not just marijuana.

And, as the common misconception presses on, these cartels will just find some new criminal enterprise to profit from. Unless we just continue legalizing everything these criminals do, we are going to have to resist them, not appease them.

Can't argue with that. Still, even if we do that, cartels will still sell other drugs or engage in human trafficking.

We should definitely end the War on Drugs, but we'll still need to defend the border from cartels participating in illegal gun trafficking and human trafficking.

We can do both. We can legalize all drugs, while defending the border from the two crimes I mentioned above.

The government really shouldn't be telling us what we can and can't use for recreational purposes.

Legalize it and the cartels would lose billions...sure they will find another product but in the end harder drugs are no where near as lucrative (and widespread) as pot.

As to using troops along the border....unless we switch to standing army we will never be able to do it. The volunteer force needs to have time to go home and work their real jobs.

Why is it that folks seem to think our troops are trained to handle anything? I mean sure we are well equiped and well trained for fighting but policing? Really? You really want to put our troops into a permanent police action?

Policing in foreign countries is typically a useless endeavor. Policing our border would be much more productive.

The cartels would not lose billions. They pay members in the cartels much lower than we pay workers in the US so many people would still buy drugs from the cartels to save money.

If we let the military police the border then it will give them additional skills which could help them to become police officers, border patrol, federal agents, etc which will help them when they leave the military.

Legalizing a substance drops its value considerably. As you said, it's not the cost of labor that concerns cartels. It's the profit margin.

Pot is very cheap to produce. The only reason it costs what it does on the market is because it's illegal. If you legalize it, then the final cost to the consumer more closely resembles the cost of production, and the margin falls tremendously.

Also, once something is legalized, suppliers multiply, and added competition drives down the margin further.

It should not be taking tax money from one private citizen and giving it too another private citizen either in the form of welfare and income subsidy.

    But it does.

And like the man says "He who pays the piper picks the tune."

Leftists are so clueless that they actually believe that will solve the problem. Mexico is a corrupt system from top to bottom where buy offs are common and contrary to policy and best interests.

Welfare is inevitable. If you want to see what happens without any social safety net, there are a variety of Third World nations to observe.

How is protecting our border "war mongering"?Putting military shouldve been done along time ago.Whats Cain going to do?Put a fence up and call it done like all the other candidates want? There is alot of private land on the border, and building a fence would mean the Federal government taking that land away, and there is alot of border area where a fence is not possible.Illegals will just tunnel under a barrier, these people are not stupid.
We shouldnt ignore the violence that is going on over here anymore, and Im not very fond of Federale Policia choppers in our airspace either.
I understand and agree we shouldnt involve ourselves in another conflict,I get it,I understand, but this is too close to home.

Not that I disagree...but what about the rest? Shall we legalize invasions in general?
Sure, legalizing pot would solve a lot of issues, but it doesn't address the utter absurdity of what Perry has ignored until now.
I don't trust him, at all.

Because of all the corruption in Mexico, don't think it is a good idea to send our youngsters INto Mexico, but think it is a good idea to put them on the border to keep it from spilling over into the US.
Legalizing drugs would not stop the border problems but sure would help the budget. I have read articles where they spend billions on just the war on marijuana let alone other drugs. If it is legal and people are dumb enough to abuse it, that is their problem. Would save the US a ton of money.
Better to have our youngsters at home protecting the US instead of nation building else where. Fighting in the Middle East has gone on for ever and will continue whether we are there or not. Bring them home.

    What a terrible idea!

Conflict with the cartels would be inevitable. Cartels would start using terror tactics similar to the insurgents we're fighting in the Middle East, and warfare would likely spill over the border. Civilian deaths on both sides would be inevitable which would only fan the flames of the fire.

Stupid idea. Please don't vote for this joker!
