First you said "we" will never secure the border and that is painting with too broad a brush.

I agree that Obama will never do it.

But unless he declares martial law and suspends the Constitution he won't be around much longer.

Ya gotta ask yourself - where was Obama when Bush and McCain were playing happy/happy/joy/joy with Vicente Fox and throwing the borders wide open at the behest of the Chamber of Commerce and moteliers and landscape contractors everywhere? In fact, the problem goes back to Reagan/Bush who hoped to import millions of Latin workers as scabs to ward off the evil union empire. I think Obama might still have been in college at the time.

Because the Border has been "Wide Open" for 40+ years does not mean we should not clamp it off with fifty thousand Troops & NG PRONTO ...

I don't care where Obama was years ago.

Today as we speak President Zero is the Quisling in the White House who is pandering to the illegal alien invasion from Mexico.

Bush and McCain were bad but they are not the center of the storm today.

Placing military troops at the border will not change anything. I.e., El Paso, TX, if you were to have the military there inspecting all vehicles, commerce would drop by 50%. In addition, the drug lords will dig tunnels, or use submarines. Then there is the cost of housing and training let alone any incidents.

I agree that more must be done, but sendings troops is not the pancea for our southern border issues.

Liberals will embrace any crazy excuse to keep the border open.

The US military is not going to operate the border crossing inspection stations.

The military will deploy all along the border to catch, kill or turn back illegal aliens trying to cross on foot.

If Pedro the landscaper can afford to buy passage on a submarine to sneak into the US we'll just have to step up our anti-submarine warfare capability.

I can see where nobody running for president or the sitting president would want to rule out military action as far as the Mexican drug cartels go......

But the way Perry spoke about the hypothetical scenario in advance was just stupid and irresponsible.

I misspoke. We should continue to conquer the world with our 8th grade education level.

History shows that unless you want to turn the US into an armed camp (and I suspect you and the Baggers do), militarization of the border won't prevent job seeking immigrants from sneaking in.

Rather if you truly want to stop illegal workers, put in jail the CEOs who hire them. They come here to work, and CEOs in the hospitality industry, agribusiness and meat packing provide the incentive.

But then, you really DON'T want to stop illegal immigration do you. You just want symbolic action which looks tough and plays to racial stereotypes, but which allows big corporations to continue to exploit workers and suppress wages.

Actually its BUSINESS, as in white Republican businessmen, who want an open border.

And most immigrants aren't Latino, and most Latinos aren't immigrants.

I'm sorry, but that horse is already out of the barn and 50,000 troops ain't gonna put it back in.

That's pretty much the long and the short of it. But if you throw cartel-type cash at the troops, maybe they can keep up.

I've long held that troops should be deployed to our borders - but only within our borders. It's not our job to fix Libya, Syria, Iraq or Mexico. It's our job to protect our citizens.
I would have strict ROE in place because the majority of people crossing are unarmed but as far as the drug smugglers etc...? Put some of my friends who have the Marine designation "317" a few hundreds from the border and watch the problem decline - RAPIDLY.

Cocaine and Marijuana are the only two, and technically you could legalize both. Remember that Cocaine is used in hospitals in the US too.

Doesn't mean I'm for legalizing cocaine, but just saying it is a possibility. And the legalization of marijuana would still cut way down on crime and Mexican drug lord business.
