http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/wr...er-of-disabled-israeli-children-sue-for-not-b Increasing number of disabled Israeli children sue for not being aborted by Christine Dhanagom Thu Nov 10, 2011 18:36 ES Wrongful life lawsuits, in which doctors are held liable for not discovering fetal abnormalities that might have prompted parents to abort their child, have become so common in Israel that the government has set up a committee to investigate the issue, New Scientist reports. I find it very difficult to understand how parents can go on the witness stand and tell their children it would have been better for you not to have been born, said Professor Avraham Steinberg. According to magazine, wrongful life claims are more prevalent in Israel where a higher rate of genetic disorders caused by consanguineous (connected by kinship) marriages has fueled a pro-genetic testing culture. The county has seen an estimated 600 wrongful cases since the first in 1987. While similar lawsuits in the United States and Canada are often brought by the parents of disabled children, it is common in Israel for the children themselves to demand compensation for the fact that they were not killed in-utero. snip --------------------------------------- This is one of the few good things about abortion. Bringing a severly disabled kid into the world is bad for the kid and society.
In cases where the abnormalities caused the mothers' death, I can understand this type of lawsuit. I support abortions, if the mothers' life is endangered by the pregnancy. But when the parents sue simply because they don't like having to take care of their child's special needs, and would rather have gotten an abortion, than they are scum and don't deserve to be called parents.
I thought only the Palestinians were told that they should never have been born. Well... its good to see that Israeli disabled are sueing for the right to be aborted. After all, what good is a disabled Israeli? You need both arms and legs and good eye coordination to be part of the IDF sniper patrol, as those Palestinian kids are very nimble targets.
If the doctor didn't do his/her job properly and inform the parents of the fetal abnormality, then the parents have every right to sue. Caring for a child with severe disabilites costs an awful lot of money. The parents have to get on the stand and say that they wish theu had an abortion. They need the money to care for the child for the rest of their lives.
Big deal. A lawyer called them. Happens all the time. Other than supporting trial lawyers I see nothing particularly liberal about this. Well, there is the love of abortion. Let's hear from liberals who support post-natal abortion. Perhaps it's not too late.
Special needs.?? Needs that may cost $100,000 a year and the parents can't pay so it gets dumped on the rest of us.
Or, as has been suggested, the possible abortion of likely gay children. It is one reason the gay community is very against the possible determination of a genetic or biological component to being gay. It makes for an interesting dilemma. On the one hand, you have a majority view in the gay community that being gay is not a simple choice, arguing that there are pre-determining components. I share this view as well, having grown up with a gay sibling, who also agrees. But if there is a pre-determining factor, then it stands to reckon that it can be found out, and diagnosed in a fetus. That is a problem
Because the children are the plaintiffs. They need to sue so they can get money for the medical care.
What's wrong with that? The perverts insist on giving themselves aids and then demand the taxpayers pay for their care. Aborting pervert fetuses makes sense!!!
OTOH is it right to make society pay millions of $ to care for someone that will never be productive?
That is why I think that if a parent chooses to knowingly bring a severely disabled kid into the world, they should pay for their medical treatment and other costs themselves, and not assume the taxpayer should.
