http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/10/09/occupy-d-c-protests-march-into-second-week/ and now these Protests have been spreading across the country I watched a news cast this am, claiming that breakout groups are actually trying to find specific issues to address as far as demands. Items such as more funding to identify and prosecute corporate fraud. Are there any 'specifics' that people on this forum could identify that would be productive? My first would be to eleminate corporate funding of lobbyist That should be illegal. any others?
How about ' The candidates for President must hand over their personal fortunes to the State and be paid the average American wage '
As far as I understand it, Canada gets around this problem by making campaigns publicly funded, with private donations either being highly restricted or not allowed in general. Granted, Canada also has a parliamentary system, so the Prime Minister is the leader of the party with the most seats in the legislature. I sometimes wonder if America would be better off with a parliamentary system.
Why not stick with the demands that they've already made? Demand one: Restoration of the living wage. This demand can only be met by ending "Freetrade" by re-imposing trade tariffs on all imported goods entering the American market to level the playing field for domestic family farming and domestic manufacturing as most nations that are dumping cheap products onto the American market have radical wage and environmental regulation advantages. Another policy that must be instituted is raise the minimum wage to twenty dollars an hr. Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system. To do this all private insurers must be banned from the healthcare market as their only effect on the health of patients is to take money away from doctors, nurses and hospitals preventing them from doing their jobs and hand that money to wall st. investors. Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment. Demand four: Free college education. Demand five: Begin a fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end while at the same bringing the alternative energy economy up to energy demand. Demand six: One trillion dollars in infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Rail, Roads and Bridges and Electrical Grid) spending now. Demand seven: One trillion dollars in ecological restoration planting forests, reestablishing wetlands and the natural flow of river systems and decommissioning of all of America's nuclear power plants. Demand eight: Racial and gender equal rights amendment. Demand nine: Open borders migration. anyone can travel anywhere to work and live. Demand ten: Bring American elections up to international standards of a paper ballot precinct counted and recounted in front of an independent and party observers system. Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all. Debt forgiveness of sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans now! All debt must be stricken from the "Books." World Bank Loans to all Nations, Bank to Bank Debt and all Bonds and Margin Call Debt in the stock market including all Derivatives or Credit Default Swaps, all 65 trillion dollars of them must also be stricken from the "Books." And I don't mean debt that is in default, I mean all debt on the entire planet period. Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies. Demand thirteen: Allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time during a union organizing campaign or at any time that represents their yeah or nay to having a union represent them in collective bargaining or to form a union. These demands will create so many jobs it will be completely impossible to fill them without an open borders policy. I hope the Democrats adopt and run on this platform.
who is going to hire people when all debt is wiped out? all of these companies holding our debt will go out of business overnight? so you want your home, car, credit cards... basically everything for free? i agree with some of those demands but a few of them are outright ridiculous.
I would rather see it stated that unless an entity can vote, it cannot provide money to candidates. I like that better since it goes after both parties a bit more equally. Anyway, the OW people are so misguided that if it weren't so sad I'd laugh.
All the effort is for nothing. Americans are too lazy to do any manual physical work. they rely on their privilage for money. And with capitalizim maxed out on the american buisness, there is no more room for USA growth. The efforts of protest fall on dead ears of billionares of wall street. The People of the USA for the People of the USA have voted in the very ones who are screwing them over. This speration of wealthy and "I think I'm worthy of being wealthy" has been going on since the begining of time. If these protesting agitators are unhappy with the wealthy, the only way to bring down the wealthy is to destroy what make them wealthy. MONEY, CASH, PAPER, COIN, ETC.., To do it is simple, devalue gold, silver, bonds, money, and all that the wealty use for currency. Start the barter system. Make trade for your skill and service. And do it with others who have products, skills and services you need to survive/live. Do this and you destroy the wealthy. Use cash and credit from banks and an employer and you allow the status quo, and the wealthy get more wealthy off you. Are you worthy of anything? Can you depend on your skill or service or product to survive. Ask yourself, what are you realy worth?
Demand one and nine conflict with one another. Making one happen will stop the other from happening. Hey why don't you demand that everyone get a "above average" wage.
raises cost of good. ie... immagrants will work for $4 an hour and be happy to carry the groceries for your wife and mow the lawn afterwards Unions are they are today, stink. IF a person signs, that specific items are approvable, i could agree. But to comprehend how politics works, "WE" are a union under our government and now they control us. ie..... no fricken way i would allow my congress to support a religious state, nor would anyone in my whole family as long as i can remember. Same with raising taxes yet reduce educationa; appropriations. I would not approve ONE vote of mine to reduce infrastructure funding for defense spending. The red items are dead, the green are fine thought, the underlined have merit. Thanx for at least putting in something on a thread, asking for it
Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment. I choose unemployed. Please send checks to my home address. I'll be waiting for them on the couch. Thank you.
Pay for it? This isn't my manifesto, it's the Occupiers list of demands. I was just helpfully providing the list of the 99%'ers demands. It's all looney toons but I totally support their right to promote it and get Democratic politicians to endorse them.
I'm all for that. I don't know how you can mix the US's large economy with India's puny economy and come out with anything other than a middlin' economy for the U.S. All we're doing is outsourcing our jobs and insourcing India's poverty.
Obama money...now that Obamas president I don't needs to worry about my mortgage, I don't needs to be payin my bills, I gonna gets me lots o dat Obama money
Your goal is to destroy those that are wealthy? Do you think THAT is your problem? And then you ask the question, 'what are you really worth?' You are sealing the destruction not just of the 'wealthy' but of anyone who has something more than you. You are destroying the whole system. A breakdown of society. Is that what you want? You'll never survive. What will you do if you get injured...what is your worth then? As jerky? LoL
Stupid, stupid people. This is why Americans are going to their doom. If you bothered to check the statement by "Lil Mike" regarding a list of demands you would find that it is NOT TRUE That list was submitted by one individual. This is the current list from the website: http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed-list-of-demands-please-help-editadd-so-th/
