Things are heating up in Cuba, and there are protests in Florida too. Lets hope the Cuban government is not going to react too heavy handedly. It is certainly a time for change there after decades of communism.

‘Freedom!’ Thousands of Cubans take to the streets to demand the end of dictatorship

n an unprecedented display of anger and frustration, thousands of people took to the streets Sunday in cities and towns across Cuba, including Havana, to call for the end of the decades-old dictatorship and demand food and vaccines, as shortages of basic necessities have reached crisis proportions and COVID-19 cases have soared.

From the Malecón, Havana’s famous seawall near the old city, to small towns in Artemisa province and Palma Soriano, the second-largest city in Santiago de Cuba province, videos live-streamed on Facebook showed thousands of people walking and riding bikes and motorcycles along streets while chanting “Freedom!” “Down with Communism!” and “Patria y Vida” -- Homeland and Life -- which has become a battle cry among activists after a viral music video turned the revolutionary slogan “Homeland or Death” on its head.

Biden says U.S. stands with Cuban people, protests are a ‘clarion call for freedom’
    https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/cuba/article252725548.html

President Joe Biden said on Monday the United States supports the Cuban people and called their rare protests a “clarion call for freedom and relief” from the pandemic and decades under dictatorship.

“We stand with the Cuban people and their clarion call for freedom and relief from the tragic grip of the pandemic and from the decades of repression and economic suffering to which they have been subjected by Cuba’s authoritarian regime,” Biden said in a statement first obtained by McClatchy.

The people of Cuba have been undergoing hardships because of our sanctions. I read that we're receding from other parts of the world and going back to being fortress America. To overthrow governments, we're using the means we're adept at; propaganda, lies, bribery, bullying, etc..

The fear is that we might embargo Cuba with our ships so that Russia and other nations won't be able to send them food and medicine. We're adept at that too.

I dont know about an embargo, but obviously Russia and China are seeing the same thing as everyone else, and thinking about how to capitalize from it.

Though I have long been against the Cuban embargo, it is patently ridiculous to imagine that U.S. ships would prevent ANY other country from delivering, "FOOD and MEDICINE," to the Cuban people. I would not put it out of the realm of possibility that we might deliver humanitarian assistance, as we recently did with Venezuela.

    https://www.usaid.gov/humanitarian-assistance/venezuela-regional

    https://www.usaid.gov/news-informat...umanitarian-funding-response-venezuela-crisis

This is not to say that I am so naive that I don't know that our country has had policies that have led to the death & suffering of civilians. But, under the present circumstances, your suggestion, besides lacking substantiation, seems outrageous.

You mean communism, or the US sanctions? Typically communist dictatorships don't give a rip about their people, but always find someone else, like the US, to blame for their problems.

Some people have convinced themselves that the US government does not meddle in the affairs of other countries.

In fact, the US government meddles in the affairs of other countries all the time. We overthrow governments elected by the people at every opportunity.

Most likely that is exactly what's going on in Cuba right now. A clue to that is the chorus in the MSM on this story, most of them written by the same group, CIA controlled.

Or maybe the Cubans are just sick and tired of living under a crappy communist dictatorship.

The Cuban commies were not elected by the people.

Freeing Cuba would open all kinds of opportunities, and Europeans have been taking advantage of those opportunities for about 10 years now building resorts and such on the island for European tourists. And yes, it had benefitted Cuba too, and would benefit a lot more if the commie government was removed.

Go ahead Joe, - unleash the dogs.

You are one of the better posters here at regurgitating official government narratives on a variety of historical events. :applause:

Dictatorship under any type of economy is bad.

Socialism is an economic system where everyone in society equally owns the factors of production. The ownership is acquired through a democratically elected government. It could also be a cooperative or a public corporation where everyone owns shares.

    In practice, not so much.

The thing is - you never know where the tipping point is. But history makes it clear that
unless you go in hard and break heads then it really will be a tipping point. The Shah
told this to the USA, without avail. Syria and Iran learned that lesson.

Socialism is not a theory. It is a type of economy. But every type of economy that is ruled by a dictator will usually ruin it. Unfortunately for socialism where businesses are publicly owned it is easy for a dictator to take over.

Please enlighten me what the "official government narrative" is on this one, because I have absolutely no idea.

It seems you are the expert on official government narratives, not me.

    I agree. It doesn't work.

European system "social democracy" works, because it is not socialism. They have free market economies (with strong / taxpayer funded social benefits). Bernie Sanders says "democratic socialism", and then he speaks about France or Denmark, which is weird because it shows that either he does not know the difference or he is trying to sell real socialism under the guise of Euro model, which is something else.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens in Cuba, and if it will affect Venezuela as well. This could be the beginning of something good for all parties.

We should send over AOC, Rashida, Ilan and Maxine and some other lefty’s to tell them just how horrible it is when your a capitalist country. They can teach them about the terrible system where people live in freedom and are expected to contribute to make the country better. Where every citizen can become whatever they want to......just be prepared to apply yourself and most likely work hard. No guarantee, but The freedom to do as you like.
Just ask those thousands of kids in the Xiden cages if it’s worth it to become American.

Washington is also concerned about the suffering of the Syrian people, as we steal over a million sheep, their oil and burn their wheat fields. But it's all for the greater good, so they could overthrow their elected president and bow to us. We call it 'democracy in action' - but we're foiled by Russia.

In contrast to Syria, Cuba is closer to our shores. We've been embargoing them for decades, but it's not stopping help coming from Russia and China, nor the monetary compensation Cuba gets for its doctors and medical help to poor nations. So these things have to be stopped also. A naval blockade would do nicely.

As for Venezuela, isn't USAID affiliated with the CIA? Enough said!

They cant even get de-wormer there. Something we can get off the shelf for a few $ at the hardware store is like unicorns in Cuba. I have to think its a direct result of our sanctions or some entrepreneur would've started making bank boating some over to them. Punishing the common folk for being subjugated by authoritarian collectivists doesnt do anyone any good.
