‘Shame!’: USA Today Under Fire After Posting Op-Ed Critical of Trans Athletes

The heads of many leftists exploded Saturday after a Connecticut girl wrote an op-ed published in USA Today in which she talked of how unfair it was that she and other natural-born girls were beaten out for track and field scholarships by boys claiming to be transgender girls.

A young woman named Chelsea Mitchell began losing race after race starting back when she was in high school in 2017. Even though she was rated the fastest female runner in the state in the 55-yard-dash, she lost nearly a dozen titles because, in 2017, the state of Connecticut ruled that biological boys claiming to be transgender girls could compete in school sports with biological girls.

In her May 22 op-ed, Miss Mitchell told readers that forcing girls to compete against opponents born as boys was simply unfair and destroying girls’ sports.

Mitchell noted that all her training and physical conditioning often came to naught because her opponents had the advantage. “All I can think about,” she wrote, “is how all my training, everything I’ve done to maximize my performance, might not be enough, simply because there’s a runner on the line with an enormous physical advantage: a male body.”…

I saw the USA Today opinion piece that got the reaction this news story is reporting on. It’s sad that the left is targeting title IX and female sports. Chelsea Mitchell is 100% correct in what she wrote. Girls should not have to compete against boys with an identity crisis in order to win a girls sports event. The reported hate filled name calling personal attack response by the progressive left and the LGBT community via Twitter is sad.

 

I agree. It’s completely ridiculous for transgenders to compete in their chosen sport.

But let’s not pretend these athletes are going the transgender route because they want to win either.

This tweet led to a Twitter storm of vile hate and vindictive anger at this brave young woman. Stuff that if straight people had directed the other way would have been rightfully deleted by Twitter.
I’m grateful that the Alliance Defending Freedom is advancing her case as they have a great track record in court cases.

 

A bigot wrote a bigoted op ed, of course it’s going to be criticized. No offense but if David Duke wrote an opinion about blm and it was published, people would be upset by that too.

 

What makes her brave?

 

Why do dems hate women so much, they don't want them to succeed in sports? I mean this stuff is as obvious as the sun but you just can't make up the crazy going on in lefty world.

 

She isn't a bigot, she's a realist.

 

The realist position is that trans femme bodies are like anchors, because they’re used to having more testosterone and so have a larger body frame. With spiro there is less testerotone production which in effect “weighs” a person down in their own body.

 

What makes her or her OpEd bigoted? What she wrote was the truth. As a male in high school my 800 meters time was faster than the world record for women at the time.

 

You are assuming the people she is speaking of have gone though any treatments to lower the testosterone in their bodies. That is not a requirement from the state.

 

She spoke out in a calm and logical way about a very controversial issue. Something most grown adults will not do.

 

Yeah, that was my take as well. Seems quite normal, not brave.

 

Because you say they’re male and compare trans women to men. They’re not male. They’re women who have all sorts of different bodily needs no. You’re talking about comparing people who have taken testerterone suppressants and saying they’re the same as someone who doesn’t take them. How does that even begin to make sense?

 

But it is not normal, that is the point. Most adults would not do what she did.

 

There is no requirement in the state rules for the person to have taken testosterone suppressants.

 

Connecticut? Yeah trans athletes have to be testertone suppressants for 2 years. Standard policy.

 

It takes an extreme right winger to claim leftist heads were exploding over this news.... From my rough straw poll on here, most people are against transgenders competing in girls sports. I certainly am.

Also, to correct the Pulitzer Prize winning journalists at Breitbart.com, she is not critical of trans athletes, she is critical of the system that allows trans athletes to compete in her categories..

Fixed it for them, not that they are breit enough to learn for the future...

I’m on mobile. Do you have a time limit or are you willing to say that they comply with NCAA regulations which requires testerterone suppressant for two years? For the sake of the discussion of course.

 

I will do some more digging since i do not know if the High School rules match the NCAA regs. I know how hard it is on a mobile.

 

Yeah I know, I am supposed to get up and write a paper but I’m just too lazy to get out of bed today. Ugh I fell asleep in my workout outfit too lol.

 

Also, do you suppose it is just coincidence that two transgender athletes won so many state championships in Conn?

 

What would have happened if they lost? “Trans athletes are a joke! Look at them, they’ll never win at anything”. What would have happened if they won? “They’re a threat to our kids! They’re dangerous! We need to ban them!”

The answer is maybe? Probably is. They’re two good athletes who tried their best to win. And their talents got them far.
