<THREAD TITLE EDITED TO MATCH LINKED ARTICLE> USS America issues SOS. Are you tired of winning? “Rising distress and despair are largely American phenomenon not observed in other advanced countries,” The "United States is one of just a few countries worldwide that is slipping backward." "United States, Brazil and Hungary are the only ones in which people are worse off than when the index began in 2011." "The Social Progress Index finds that Americans have health statistics similar to those of people in Chile, Jordan and Albania, while kids in the United States get an education roughly on par with what children get in Uzbekistan and Mongolia. A majority of countries have lower homicide rates, and most other advanced countries have lower traffic fatality rates and better sanitation and internet access." Social progress is dropping under Fuhrer Dopey Donald Trump. "Trump is a symptom of this larger malaise, and also a cause of its acceleration." It is more than dropping. It is about to plummet with burgeoning homelessness and burgeoning unemployment, burgeoning government debt, growing trade deficit, manufacturing jobs evaporating. Nothing that Trump has promised has eventuated. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/09/opinion/united-states-social-progress.html
There is an 8 minute 16 second video available for viewing on the Wasington Post site it is on the right side of the page well down on the page. It is about the STAR MOTEL residents in Florida and the abject poverty these working people including families live in this abandoned motel where the electric service is shut off, in HOT FLORIDA. The residents are all homeless people who have no place else to live and will probably never be able to afford a home of their own. THIS IS AMERICA TODAY and the poverty is growing quickly.
Rule 11 requires a sourced "New Article" - the "News Article" you post is described by the NY Times as Opinion. A clue is the /opinion/ in your link.
These indexes are designed with a desired end result in mind. They're not objective. Here, take a look for yourself: https://www.socialprogress.org/?tab=2&code=USA
Maybe they should go be poor somewhere else if it's better for the poor there. I hear Venezuela is trying some very innovative poverty programs.
Better warn all those people trying to immigrate here. Maybe we can exchange them for those who're "protesting" and supporting the "protests".
The USA went from #1 in the industrialized world in upward mobility to #34. This is a sad reflection of the lack of actual representation the average American has in a government that is no longer there for the people.
Please put this information up on our borders to let the illegals know that they are fleeing to a hell hole. The left is not doing a very good job of warning people away from coming here.
Distress and despair is world-wide.No one nation is immune to it. That said, diet and exercise are the key, a foundation if you will, to combat what life can inflict on anyone. This pandemic affects everyone.
How and why was the movie Parasite made if there is no poverty in wonderful places like S.Korea? That was a reflection of real society there. Looked pretty shitty for those on the bottom?
‘We’re No. 28! And Dropping!’ A measure of social progress finds that the quality of life dropped. An interesting opinion but, in my view, way off the mark.
I would probably agree. It seems to me that Americans have become lazy and instead of trying to help themselves, they want others to just give them stuff.
Your post start off the discussion with an example of Godwin's law. In other words you derail your own thread. Here is a good read for you. https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/bernie-farber/jim-mcdonell-nazi_b_1875579.html
I believe airports are still open. Exercise your right to depart for a country where everything is free.
While liberals claim the sky is falling and as the OP claimed we are "slipping backward" and states our economy is "about to plummet with burgeoning homelessness and burgeoning unemployment" here is another view. https://markets.businessinsider.com...chs-outlook-august-jobs-35-2020-9-1029581263# Goldman Sachs is predicting US Q3 GDP to be 35% due to a better than expected August jobs report. The bank said in a note on Thursday: "We upgraded our near-term growth forecasts based on the much stronger-than-expected August jobs report and the solid summer data more generally." The US added 1.37 million jobs in August, higher than an expected addition of 1.35 million jobs. The bank said data is pointing to higher real spending in August, another factor prompting its GDP upgrade. Bloomberg economists are expecting US GDP to be 21% in Q3.
Well, I'm doing great here in the USA. I hope more people see this report and stop coming to the US. Less people would make this country even better than it already is.
Looking at the following map it appears the Social Progress Index is put out by racists. With the exception of Japan the countries classified by this index as Tier 1 are more or less all white. This index looks like something that Hitler would have touted, as he considered the Japanese to be honorary Aryans. https://www.socialprogress.org/
