Actually that is a perfect example of how to probably do it within budget. It is similar to my AirBnB example. At $20K a month you are looking at $666 a day. If you have 3 or 4 agents staying there it would be well under budget. Plus by renting out a house you have more room for all of the SS equipment and hardware.

Self dealing like that would be a felony for any other federal employee. POTUS is exempt from prosecution, but it’s still a conflict of interest and unethical.

We know where the money came from for the Obamas - it was from two book deals and a Netflix deal for producing content.
That's public record. They produced their Tax reports.

Why are Trumpets so freaked out about Trump having to report his income? It's no big deal ... unless it is illegal.

Would it be illegal for other government employees to stay at hotel property they own and billed the rate charged back to the government? IMO I don't see it as a big deal as long as they followed the budget rules for hotel rates. I think the problem here is the rates were so high and they got a waiver for the government to pay the excess. I think if Trump or his children payed the excess it would be fair. I think the same rules would apply if they owned a restaurant. If amounts are within the meal allowance it would be fair but anything over come out of their pocket.

I looked into it a couple of years ago. Federal employees would be prohibited from directing funds to their own business. It would be a conflict of interest and a felony.

If that is true I would have no problems if that rule applied to the president too. I think we give president far too much privileged that is not necessary for the position.

Just another example of Trump's illegal activity, what a disgrace.

LOL! I was just going to post the same thing.

Of course, very predictably, the Trump apologists are out in full force. Now, imagine a Dem president would overcharge for having secret service stay at their place. Trump supporters' heads would explode.

It is a felony. There have been numerous incidents where a federal employee directed a contract to their own company and went to jail for it.

So you have no issue with the president or their businesses profiting off of the office? Yes or no?

Seriously, do you think Trump personally profited where it literally put dollars in his pocket? There are many, and I mean many, more examples of people using their political office and or position to make a lot more money than anything Trump would have made from this, if any money at all. Obama and Clinton (both of them) profited from their positions in government.

How much do you think Trump personally made on this? A few hundred dollars?

He doesn’t, but if he knows they will have to be on property to insure his security, why would he escalate the rates other than to make money off do them? And why schedule over five hundred visits in four years to his own property where he is profiting?

show us where Obama privately profited by using the Office of the President. Show us where any President in history ever personally profited off of the Office of the President

Yes, he did, it is well documented, as I said, he even charged the Secret Service for the golf carts they had to use to protect them on the golf course. Trump raked in millions, did you really think he scheduled over five hundred plus treks to his resorts cause he liked the golf courses

And no President has personally profited off of the Office of President, majority divested their investments, none ran businesses while jointly serving as President
