A frustrated Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) told reporters Thursday that "it's time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks" for the state's continued surge in new COVID-19 cases.”

“Nationwide, the average number of new cases per day was up 55% over the past week — a surge driven primarily by unvaccinated people. 97% of people hospitalized for COVID-19 infections are unvaccinated, 99% of people who die from the virus weren’t vaccinated.”

“Let’s be crystal clear about this issue. And media, I want you to start reporting the facts," Ivey said. "The new cases of COVID are because of unvaccinated folks."

Not to sound caustic, but I’d have to say it is about time a political figure on the right stood up and told the truth.

Common sense, where does it say one has the right, the “freedom,” to infect others’ children and vulnerable Americans with a deadly virus?

If you want to stay unvaccinated, practice your “freedom,” fine, stay home, but if you want access to any public event or gathering, show proof of vaccination. Time to halt the enormously selfish and hateful people from sabotaging America’s break from Covid

Red states will suffer greatly from anti-vaccine propaganda.

It was written in the sky.

Thousands of anti-science Republicans will soon be mowed down by the virus and I hope that the GOP political leaders, who have been few and far between in taking this pandemic seriously, will pay a political price.

We live in a free country.
I support all people that believe their nation is being stolen from them to exercise their rights and not get injected with the secret tracking device that will possibly make you infertile and being about the new world order.

To the sane people, please get vaccinated, talk with your trusted physician if you have concerns

I'm not sure "anti-science Republicans" are the problem in Alabama.

    Issues & Insights:

The states with low vaccination rates also tend to have larger minority populations. And blacks are the least likely racial or ethnic group to have been vaccinated, with Hispanics the second least likely, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Alabama and Mississippi, for example, are the states with the lowest vaccination rates in the country. They are also that states that have some of the highest share of blacks – 38% in Mississippi and 27% in Alabama. Louisiana (the fifth least vaccinated state), is 32% black, and in Georgia (sixth lowest vaccination rate) blacks make up 31% of the population.

I'm frankly surprised that the Biden administration isn't able to make more headway with the Black population.

Seems like Asa Hutchinson, Governor of Arkansas, has also seen the light, and will start a statewide vaccination information tour.

    https://governor.arkansas.gov/news-media/press-releases/governor-hutchinson-to-start-statewide-tour

I wonder if the usual suspects will whine about the Arkansas state government gestapo trying to get them to vaccinate. Probably not.

Voters identifying as Democrats are 85%+ vaccinated. Guess who brings down the white vaccination average to 48%? Maybe address that before crying "but blacks...". African Americans not getting vaccinated at high rates, which is not good, is in no way an excuse for Trumpers not getting vaccinated.

    This graph means absolutely nothing.

There are 2.5 times more whites than blacks in Alabama.

    Asians represent only 1.4%.

45% of Republicans refuse to get vaccinated.

In Alabama, that's over 2 million people.

These are the numbers you need to remember.

I'm not defending "Trumpers" who are not getting vaccinated, however I'm unclear why "Trumpers" wouldn't get the vaccinate based on being "Trumpers" if Trump got the vaccine and encouraged others to get it.

It’s not just being trumpers, it’s where trumpers tend to go for their news. Like hannity or Tucker for example.

You make a very good point. I think people mistakenly try to make is identify an easy catch all group for those that want to vaccinate and those that do not. I think like any regression analysis modeling we need to consider multiple variables for why people may not vaccinate. I think political party may be a red herring because even though you may find some correlation between political party and vaccination rates I believe they are due to cross correlation with other variables like education, region, income, etc... For example if we look at your data we may be able to assume Asians on average have a higher education level, higher income and are more likely to live in cities.

EDIT: Now that I think about it income may be a bad variable too because it may be too highly correlated with education and region but someone doing statistical analysis can easy run the model and see.

Actually the number I need to know is who is being hospitalized for Covid and their reasons for not getting the shot. Unlikely to get those answers for a while, but what prompted my query is that NBC News this week has had stories about people hospitalized for Covid and they were all black (of the ones I've seen). That's curious.

I can't speak for Hannity but I watch Tucker and I'm unclear what you are referring to.

I love it. Politicians speak the truth when you agree. So why do vaccinated people have to wear masks and distance?

The pot is calling the kettle uninformed. While I see no claims about door to door injections or bibles, gun rights are absolutely being taken.

Please don’t confuse us with people who live and die by what TV talking heads say. Just because some folks were told how to think by Comedy Central doesn’t mean all of us get our news the same way.

Yesterday my mother-in-law was watching CNN and all they talked about was Trump and how he’s to blame for people not being vaccinated. Not once during the show did they mention the low fatality rate of the people with the China virus or the death rate and side effects of the vaccine. And not once did Acosta refer to the virus as the Wuhan virus, I believe he’s the one who coined that phrase.

Sorry, but I do not suckle from partisan media nipples. You will need to quote a credible source to support the claim that door to door injections and bible confiscation is a real issue. Infringing on second amendment rights is a real issue.

Newsom didn't think wearing a mask or keeping his own kids home from school was right for him, but still imposed strict mandates on me. He also pushed gun laws on me while enjoying the luxury of armed security.

Yet it’s blacks and Hispanics that are avoiding the vaccines. Are you saying they are all republicans.
