“Bros,” billed as an all gay comedy, is a box office disaster.

    Go woke and go broke?

Hollywood, never ones not to wear their politics on their sleeves, or not try to shove them down our throats, seems to have hit a dud here. I wonder if they will continue to push this agenda or go back to their tried and true Jim Crow in the 1950's south for guaranteed Oscars?

Maybe they think this isn't radical enough? Maybe a musical about drag queens for five year olds is what the world really needs.

I wonder if random people on the street will be accosted and forced into the theater to watch these movies? Maybe multiplexes will funnel people to the PC theater of their choice?

How will Hollywood put a happy face on this?

Well, technically speaking any movie that is "iffy" to start out with is taking a big gamble going the movie theater route these days. Top Gun is the only movie that carried the summer. This film should have gone to streaming.

Very few films do well at box office. This isn’t exactly ground-breaking news.

Depending on which website you look at, gays make up 3 or 4% of the population which is dwarfed by people of religious faith. I don't think religious people would be interested in this kind of film and that takes away a huge portion of their audience.

A little early to call it -

Rocky Horror Picture Show (a movie mainly about drag queens) grossed about $21,000 on it's opening weekend ... of course it
went on to make $225 MILLION ... so there's that.

Broke Back Mountain grossed $178 million.

So it's so much about a "gay" agenda as it is the quality of entertainment.

Avatar was about the saving of the environment - a decidedly "woke" theme. It grossed almost $3 BILLION - still one of the
highest gross ever. So I doubt Hollywood is going to shrink away from "woke" theme movies.

Frozen and Frozen 2 were about Feminism and female empowerment ... Both in the top 20 all time gross. So chalk another "woke" hit.

But you know what you won't find in the top 100 grossing films ... anything that tries to shove a religious view down "people's throats" ... hmm wonder
which group really isn't in line with the average American's views.

So name one religious movie that has outgrossed Broke Back Mountain? (Hint: $175 million gross)
If what you say is true, "Left Behind" should have out-grossed Broke Back Mountain easily. (Hint: it only grossed $5 million).

So, all in all, we see that "woke" movies have vastly out-grossed any of the religious theme movies ... so tell us again, OP, what
bit of silliness you are trying to portray?

You’re reading things that aren’t there. I’m not a Muslim but I doubt they would enjoy a gay movie. Do you disagree?

And you're speaking on other people's behalf. That is what I am referring to, and your statement above implies you do not believe there are gay Muslims.

What you are attempting to do is similar to the OP's flagrant homophobic bashing in that you are trying to conflate it with religious dogma. Many movies fail miserably for a whole host of reasons, but even more so now post-pandemic and fresh off the streaming wars. It failed most likely because RomComs just aren't popular right now, and being a gay RomCom it certainly appears to be struggling to find its audience. I'm sure Universal Pictures will survive.

The Birdcage was a hit film in the 90s

Some films find an audience some don't - regardless of the reviews

I had no desire to see it

So according to you, Avatar, Frozen and Frozen 2, Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman, and Bohemian Rhapsody were all woke movies?
Just because there is a gay or super hero character, that doesn't make the move theme woke. lol

The Passion of the Christ earned $83,848,082 in its opening weekend and a total of over $615 million ranking it fourth overall in domestic opening weekend earnings. Moreover, The Passion of the Christ scored the second biggest opening weekend for any R-rated movie, behind The Matrix Reloaded. It remains the highest grossing R-rated film in the domestic market.

Heaven Is for Real grossed $101 million against a $12 million budget
I Can Only Imagine grossed $85 million with a $7 million dollar budget.

And Rocky Horror Picture show had a budget under $2 million and grossed $225 million.
So we see that gay and transgender films can easily out-gross religious pics despite what the OP was claiming.

I've seen a few of them good, and I've seen a lot of them embarrassingly bad. [ same proportion as with straight films] It all depends on the writing and the acting. Whether straights will enjoy a film with a gay romantic theme, depends a lot on how the sex scenes are handled, and where they are placed in the plotline - and of course the age of the straight movie-goer!

There you go again, claiming I said things I didn't say. I never said there were no gay Muslims, but many of the ones who aren't don't take kindly to the ones who are.

A movie about gays will probably not attract people of various religions and that's a pretty big audience to lose right out of the box. Do you disagree?
