$140 Billion so employees can sit around, watch and trade porn? Really? We need to remember this next time someone from the left gripes about agency funding. Instead of working at what we're paying them for they're playing on the porn sites and getting paid well for it. The worst part is they're union protected. It's high time to dismantle ALL public service unions City, County, State and Federal. Liberal hero FDR said it best...

It's time to dismantle them if the Government wants even one more dime in tax increases.

We've fired people for doing that in my district. And we're union. WTH is preventing these bozos from doing the same?

I prefer to think of it as "striking on the clock". Except the pedophiles, **** pedophiles. If the government has to exist for now, I'm not really bothered by people milking it for all they can, considering it shouldn't exist.

Having a union shouldn't make a difference when it comes to firing these employees. You fire them and let the union grieve and justify watching porn on the job. Let them take it all the way to arbitration, they can't possibly win.

Oh, and you dock their pay for the time they spent not working

They aren't milking "it", they're milking "you". Your earnings are taken under threat of penalty to finance all of this.

Whew... for a brief second there, I thought you were going to quote fdr on porn...

If the "misconduct is preventable", prevent it...

Well, that's generous of you. Seems if surfing porn is what they have time to do, then they have too many people on the payroll IMO.

There's no need to fear waste. We live in abundance. People are deprived not because there isn't enough, but because those who dogmatically denounce waste distract us from those who claim all of the excess for themselves.

The problem is not that they are watching porn. What is the difference between this and playing candy crush ?

The problem is that these Gov't agencies are pyramid building machines. They do everything in their power to justify getting bigger - and then they end up with a bunch of employees with very little to do.

What ? Is it a surprise to anyone that Gov't workers most often do not have a heavy workload ... especially in organizations like the EPA and USDA >>.. seriously .. get a job in one of these departments and it easy going until retirement - if one can put up with the office politics.

The problem that our Gov't institutions are super inefficient and just improperly designed. Get a job in one of these departments and it is almost impossible to be fired.

There is no benefit for doing a good job and no punishment for doing a generally bad job. So what does this then incentivise ?

If a civil servant has done a good job - got lots done during the day - been very productive - then I don't ****in care what they are doing with their down time !!

The question I have is WHY DO YOU ?

With so many government employees watching porn, maybe the Democrats are right and the federal government needs more funding to hire additional workers.

Im guessing you didn't read the report. Color me surprised.

The USDA has over 100,000 employees, and the "significant increase" was "229 referrals"

    so 0.2% is a "big problem" ?

Prohibit use of computers for anything but work related activity. Fire violators.

You fire one or two, the whole crew will straighten up instantly.

In my state, where government workers are unionized, this is standard operating procedure.

    It can be done.

Fire them, that's prevention. Oh I forgot they have Government service unions to protect them. To get rid of any union an entity need only eliminate dues check off. If the union has to collect their dues monthly instead of having it be taken from their paychecks, they die quickly.

There should be discipline for those who waste time at work, I don't care that they're wasting their time on porn specifically.

This story, or at least the parts quoted in the OP, don't have the one thing that would have made me give a crap about this.

An assertion that this was effecting the work the department is charged with doing. You may assume that if employees are watching porn then there's a pile of work building up that they aren't doing but anyone who has worked at an office job knows that isn't necessarily true. You can do other personal things during the workday and still be very productive. In fact its a good idea not to just hardcore zone in on work for the full workday without break because it leads to burnout much sooner. Should it be porn? I would think that porn would be too distracting personally but to each their own.

And yes let me make it clear, I don't have any problem with porn. Adults get to do absolutely whatever they want in the sexual arena as long as there is never someone involved who didn't consent. Obviously consent isn't really a problem with one guy watching porn so I have no moral objection.

Anyway, I think its obvious that these sites need to be blocked and I am pretty disgusted that they weren't blocked already since thats IT 101. But the idea that we should dismantle the department of agriculture is a pathetic overreaction by people who think taxes are worse than genocide and are salivating at the idea of destroying any and all government infrastructure. Those people are summarily ignored.

I would also point out that if employees want to watch porn during work they can easily do it on their personal devices, so blocking porn sites on government machines won't really solve the "problem" of people watching porn at work.

If you have ever worked a government job then you know what I am about to say is the unmitigated truth: Government jobs are remarkably tedious. Change comes at a snails pace. Your ideas fall on deaf ears. You job is always very simple and straightforward and never changes. Day in and day out you do the same thing over and over. If I worked at one I would probably consider watching porn sometimes too, if only to test that I actually still had a pulse.

Have they checked if this increase is due to the employees looking up the boss' girlfriend? Or if Melania's nude shots are included and they just hit on them accidentally?

WTF are you talking about? Bill was diddling with Monica on our time in the White House. Daniels was 23 years ago, get over it.
