I think in those situations it was more on the Forefront where the company actually took a political stance, and on touchy areas.

The media forced fed stories too. And backdoor advertising, I never actually saw the Gillette commercial on tv but I heard about it here.

It's my guess that there's a lot more background protest and activity going on forcing companies to take a stance or be accused of going against it, others (big) are jumping in with both feet voluntarily.

With all that said I very much prefer not to see a blacklist for either side, that's just bad for everyone, and childish.

We simply stick them all up on regular tv debates for three or four months before an election and have them answer questions from the audience and let them fight it out whatever way they want, and the moderator is only there to keep the candidates from hogging too much time.

The bureaucrats at NOAA even told the scientists not to contradict trump's latest brainfart for fear of further attacks by trump and his supporters.

I guess it's more of a desire to consolidate all labor under large corporations so it's easier for the government to confiscate them? There is no logical purpose to this.

And actually it wasn't even McCarthy. McCarthy was a Senator and went after Soviet infiltration in the federal government and as the Varona intercepts proved after they were declassified he was pretty darn correct.
