You seen how they treat their animals? Its disgusting... neighbor used to breed em. No respect for the animals at all in that industry.

He'd have to ban horse racing too! I reckons horses that can't run fast are turned into dog food. How many of them are there? Tougher regulations and penalties should have been considered or were they given a few chances already?

We breed and slaughter cattle and sheep humanely for human consumption. There are people who eat dog meat, maybe that could be a by-product.

The article links to another, there's some horrible things going on in that industry

    They also use live bait,

    http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/greyhound-racings-dark-secret-four-corners-reveals-live-piglets-rabbits-and-native-wildlife-used-to-blood-dogs-for-track/news-story/f4f09efa2b977f21ee3e128557915d87

clearly they are unable to stop these practices as long as large sums of money is involved

There is a difference between breeding animals to eat and breeding them to gamble on.

I'm not an animal psychologist or whatever you call it when it comes to using animals for sport but don't see it any differently to using them for work. Eg. Mustering cattle, horse and cart, tilling the ground etc. Animals in this instance certainly have a purpose and value. These animals would have to be well looked after. I helped my old uncle on his farm numerous times and worked the horses pretty hard on many occasions.

Racehorses and grey hounds are beautiful specimens that suggests that they are very well looked after. It's the ones that don't make the grade that are the issue it seems. If they're terrible runners then I don't see why they can't be put in the consumption queue but humanely and respectfully prepared ready for consumption by man or beast. Until the day the world becomes vegan I don't think there is anything wrong.

I do have an issue with using live bait or cruelty and suffering of animals.

From what I saw they breed em, run em, kill em all except the fastest and fudge the reporting to hide it......22 in the skull if your no good, next. Not to mention the blooding, go catch some rabbits for them to chase and eat. All normal for that industry. And they breed so many there is no chance to rehome them. Unlike with horses where there is a real market for quality horses which just are not fast enough to run the track.

Something more sinister going down here magoo. Greyhound tracks are likely to be developed. Wentworth Park is in a great location just outside the City. It would be worth a fortune! I can smell a rat and that's another liberal government doing dodgy deals with their mates. When have they been concerned about animal welfare, they're flat out being concerned about human welfare.

Hey, evidence or bust. Remember it was the ALP who filled up detention centres, How that equates to inhumane Libs in anyones head seems to be missing the obvious...

Unless of course you think its better for them to drown at sea or sit in a detention centre then living life in Indonesia or Malaysia.

Couldn't open links magoo. I'm telling you it would be worth 10's of millions and worth a lot more developed. They could well and truly afford to pay compensation.

Animal welfare groups are calling it a win but not sure that they have considered the probable ulterior motives.

Stop being rediculous AT. People are damned living in those countries because those governments don't allow them to work or receive medical support or very little. Stopping them from getting on boats is just as inhumane as putting them in detention centres, although I think detention centres are slightly better.

I would not worry too much about the jobs. Some will move interstate, others will find jobs elsewhere, like the people who used to spend money on greyhound races would spend it elsewhere now. There will be jobs created from this.

LOL, so your in a rush to tear this country down to the lowest common denominator hey?

I think its more ridiculous to expect the rest of the world to have our living standards, and that is just as ridiculous as expecting us to be able to afford to have huge increases in immigration. Or would you rather have them sitting in detention centres to rot like under the ALP? If they are no longer in a warzone, then they not really refugee's, and so I guess your moral high ground is that the rest of the world is not Australia. Well the only reason Australia is Australia is because we have to manage what we've got... oh but I guess talking about fiscal realities is just scaremongering isnt it. It's much nicer to play spendy lefty pretendy land and pass the buck to future generations isnt it TV?

I'm a bit of animal rights activist though, so I've always thought this industry needed to be closed down. There is no way to reform it realistically.

I understand your point but I must disagree with it.

Animals used for working the land (I don't know how many are left but I would guess it would be far less than 100 years ago) or feeding the population have a specific purpose that benefits humanity as a whole. Animals breed for humans to gamble on is another issue entirely, it serves no other purpose but to line the pockets of those in the gambling industry.

I am not going to tell people not to bet but I think we could limit betting to events involving humans rather than exploiting animals for nothing other than enjoyment.

lol. Could be some development dollars in those others tracks as well. I watch sky news mostly and not a whisper. Just selling it as a win for animal rights activists. I wonder what political side they lean.
