Technically, even a .22 single-shot bolt action rifle is an "assault rifle" if I use the butt of it to beat someone to death...
Handguns account for something like 90% of all gun crimes. There are more guns in the United States than there are people. There is no way they could ban or confiscate all of them. Sure, some people would willingly turn them in, but most won't. I'm pretty sure your local gangbangers aren't going to either...
No one can even define what an "assault weapon" is. California's definition says its a weapon with two or more items from a list of six things including a pistol grip, a removable magazine, a bayonet stud and such.Other states have other definitions. The military definition includes a straight line design from the shoulder through to the barrel. No one really knows what an "assault weapon" really is.
I think they've abandoned the term assault weapons now. They call them military style weapons which all weapons ever exist in human history or ever will exist in human future will be military style weapons. Or weapons of war and again all weapons ever to exist or ever that have existed are weapons of war.
Aren't all bolt action firearms single shot? In fact aren't all firearms. That have one barrel single shot? Lol
