19 Former members of Congress, all Republicans have signed an open letter saying that a trial in the case in DC over Trump's alleged attempt at overturning the 2020 election needs be completed before the November 2024 election

    In part

And so, just as Trump is entitled to a fair trial, the American public is entitled to a speedy trial. Perhaps in no other case in American history is the public’s interest in the swift and fair administration of criminal justice as great as it is here.

The public should have the benefit of the evidence presented during trial—and by Trump in his defense—and Trump should be judged by a jury of his peers. That may not be in the former president’s political interests, but it is in the nation’s best interest.

Only a jury can decide whether Trump is guilty of the charges against him. But it would deprive voters of critical information they need before they cast their ballots in November if they do not learn the full scope of the evidence and the jury’s verdict on it. Permitting delay would therefore not only undermine the rule of law, it would undermine the integrity of the 2024 election.

This is why we are joining a chorus of voices from both sides of the aisle calling on the courts to ensure that the former president is tried with the speed and dispatch that should attend every criminal prosecution.

We recognize that the Supreme Court is now facing the prospect of multiple extraordinary cases involving the former president, including one raising critical questions about whether he is constitutionally disqualified from holding office again. This moment in our history demands that the Court rise to the occasion. If necessary, it can and should decide both questions—whether Trump may appear on the ballot in the upcoming election as well whether he is subject to criminal prosecution—as quickly as possible.

The voters have a right to know if they are going to vote for a convicted felon BEFORE the votes are cast, not after.

Link, not that we don't trust that you faithfully reported this here... I suspect there might be many republicans who fear what a Trump presidency might mean to their power. And unlike Democrats, there is no expectation that folks in the Republican camp operate in lock step.

I suspect that this kind of election interference doesn't seem to bother democrats, and some republicans.

Blah blah blah if the justice system refuses to convict him the same clowns will be up in arms about how the rule of law has been subverted and the scotus and legal system are rigged lol

Confusing. Thread title is 19 republicans want trial finished before election. User says republicans don't operate in lock step. You mock that in a rule breaking post, but yet its confirmed in the OP with "19 Former members of Congress, all Republicans have signed an open letter saying that a trial in the case in DC over Trump's alleged attempt at overturning the 2020 election needs be completed before the November 2024 election"

So either you didn't read the OP about 19 republicans pushing for a trial conclusion, or you are unaware that's the opposite of what Trump wants. Which is it?

Administration of justice is NEVER "election interference"

If anything, Trump is attempting to use this election as a way of interfering with the administration of justice.

Unlike the Washington Democrats, baaaaa, baaaaa

We've been telling you that for decades, Conservatives view their reps as the hired hands, get it wrong, and get the boot.. Again unlike the Dems that consider them their masters/caregivers/mommies.daddies and Grampa's :)

Ask Lizzy Cheney she'll explain/tell/whine it out for you..

You could not have said it better.

Republicans consider their Representatives their "hired hands"

They aren't "hired hands" they are your voice. You "hire" them because you think they have the intelligence to view things and then decide on the best course of action.

If you wanted some mindless ventriloquist dummy who would just parrot what you want then just go out and get a ventriloquist dummy. You know, someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene or Lauren Bobert. Someone incapable of thinking for themselves and will just follow the party line, no matter who stupid that party line is.

You hire someone to make informed decisions and then fire them when they make an informed decision.

No wonder the Republican Party is a joke right now.

It seems like an undeniable point. That we should try to resolve whether he's a criminal before voters have to choose.

I suppose it depends on whether the "administration of justice" is absent political intent. If anything, democrats are trying to thwart the will of the people to elect this guy. I get you don't like the guy. I don't like Biden, but I'm not the one using the DOJ to keep Biden off the ballot, or in court to face his numerous criminal complaints. And of course, Biden isn't. So not exactly sure what your complaint is here.

The problem here is that you are assuming Trump is not guilty of the crimes. You are asserting that the ONLY reason for the prosecution is political and refusing to acknowledge that the prosecutions are legitimate. This is in despite of the fact that the prosecutors have been able to obtain indictments by Grand Juries in three different jurisdictions by three different Grand Juries on 91 different charges.

Despite what everyone says, you can't "indict a ham sandwich". And indictment requires REAL evidence that a crime was committed by the person indicted.

If the evidence is sufficient to obtain an indictment then I don't care if that person is running for dog catcher or president...they should not get any kind of special treatment and Trump has gotten NOTHING but special treatment. He has done things, while under indictment, that would have earned any other person a one way ticket to a jail cell.

NO ONE is "using the DOJ to keep Trump off the ticket". The DOJ is doing it's job and prosecuting people that they have evidence that that person committed a crime.

Do you think Trump is above the law? Do you think that ANYONE deserves a "free pass" just because they are running for public office (no matter what office that is)?

I'm sure there are a lot of folks afraid of Trump getting another four years, but not for any of the reasons you think. They are likely worried what the unhinged narcissist will do if he ends up back in office having never healed from his loss in 2020(you can't heal if you never move on and you can't move on if you still perpetuate the same lie you made up when it happened) and being held accountable for his wrongdoings.
