Oprah's buddy passes away... University: Poet, author Maya Angelou dies at 86 May 28,`14 -- Maya Angelou was gratified, but not surprised by her extraordinary fortune. "I'm not modest," she told The Associated Press in 2013. "I have no modesty. Modesty is a learned behavior. But I do pray for humility, because humility comes from the inside out."
Sorry to hear that. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings would be on my "you must read these" list, but otherwise she was more a formidable presence than a producer of great works IMO.
She was a great artist -she wrote great poetry and loved to dance. She survived a childhood rape and triumphed through adversity. She did not consider herself a victim. She helped and encouraged a lot of people. I love this poem by Maya: Someone Loves You Here You lived your life. I lived my life. Like two ships we passed somewhere in time. You touched my life, Enriched my life. And, for one brief moment we shared paradise. Know that someone loves you here. You went your way. I went mine. But we shared special moments that stayed. So many stayed. I hope that you know and knew Know that someone loves you here. No words can ever say. No thought can ever imagine Just how much youve meant, and mean, to me. Thank you for the memories, the warmth, the passion. Thank you for so many things you never thought would matter. Thank you for the lessons learned, And, all the good you have done. Im so thankful that you were born. When Im feeling sad. When Im feeling blue. Ill just close my eyes and think of you. With love, peace, and, happiness, Ill remember you. Know that someone loves you here. You, my experience, you transcended time. You transcend all of time. Know that someone here loves you. Someone will always love you. Know that someone loves you here. © 2009
