The first nine months of 2017 are the 2nd hottest on record, dating back to 1880, according to the NOAA, which tracks worldwide data. September was the 4th warmest ever, 1.57 deg F above the 20th century average. This newscast really emphasizes the effect on ice melt, weather patterns, etc.

Seldom do you hear News agencies talk about wildfires, and climate change. They don't discuss the Western wildfires of 2017, but I believe that is one of the most proven correlations.

And this is with mostly ENSO neutral conditions. Temperatures did not drop as much as skeptics predicted after the recent Super El Nino.

Just read an article about finding a human that was killed by a tsunami 5000-6000 years ago. Sea levels were higher then.

2017 is the Second Warmest Year on Record

Likely, every year going forward will end up being the warmest on record.

Well.... millions of years ago it was even much hotter....

And if it has EVER happened before, then it is “natural” And if it is “ natural” then there us nothing to be concerned about

I just read an article about some people who died in Puerto Rico. That was only a few weeks ago.

If this year is so far the second warmest since 1880 there must be a warmest year somewhere between then and now. The OP should have made that year known. Where are you getting your information?

We cannot know what 2017 is until it is over...but:
    "
NASA, NOAA Data Show 2016 Warmest Year on Record Globally
Earth’s 2016 surface temperatures were the warmest since modern recordkeeping began in 1880, according to independent analyses by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Globally-averaged temperatures in 2016 were 1.78 degrees Fahrenheit (0.99 degrees Celsius) warmer than the mid-20th century mean. This makes 2016 the third year in a row to set a new record for global average surface temperatures.

The planet’s long-term warming trend is seen in this chart of every year’s annual temperature cycle from 1880 to the present, compared to the average temperature from 1980 to 2015. Record warm years are listed in the column on the right.
    Credits: NASA/Joshua Stevens, Earth Observatory

The 2016 temperatures continue a long-term warming trend, according to analyses by scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York. NOAA scientists concur with the finding that 2016 was the warmest year on record based on separate, independent analyses of the data."

When discussing climate we use the word "natural" to describe processes or conditions that are not directly linked to humans. Everything "back then" was natural because humans either weren't around yet or our activities were not significant enough to be noticeable on the planetary scale.

But, let's use your definition for a moment. The temperature and CO2 concentration are currently increasing at a rate of 20C per millennium and 2000 ppm per millennium respectively. That as never happened before. So using your definition the current situation is not "natural". Whether or not and to what extent we should be concerned about this is certainly debatable.

Which if true says nothing more than we are in a warming period.

    Did I indicate otherwise?

We are obviously in a warming period which is why it's called climate change or global warming if you prefer. And it may be simple coincidence that this one is happening so quickly and just happens to coincide with our industrial revolution and the release of massive amounts of ancient sunlight (Carbon). Regardless we are in for what seems to be a relatively dramatic change that will be at a minimum...disruptive.

So quickly? Got any idea how quickly the Medieval Warm Period occurred or why sea levels were higher 5,000 years ago?

Its easy to be the warmest year when the data is wrong.

You can use this excuse for just about anything, can't you? Newsflash - 58 people were killed in a shooting in Las Vegas. Well, duh, 5000 years ago, more were killed. How do you know? Cave writings.

This graph really helps to put the 2017 temperature increase of 1.57 deg F in perspective. It is off-the-chart.

So historical records are not important, only the current hysteria is.

Climate always changes so calling this period "climate change" indicates you believe something unusual is occurring.
