    $7 Milk?

Milk could go to $7 a gallon if the farm bill isn't extended. Some people think this is a bad thing.

As kids we were told that milk was the healthiest thing we could possibly consume. In school we learned about the food pyramid, which prominently featured milk and other dairy products.

Now we learn from best-selling books by Drs. Esselstyn, Campbell and Fuhrman that milk is very UNHEALTHY! The fat from it causes heart disease, diabetes, stroke, erectile dysfunction, and dementia. Milk protein causes cancer.

As it turns out, the American dairy industry has been playing a big part in writing the nutritional guidelines! Who knew?

Some are calling the possibility of the bill not getting signed and milk going to $7 a gallon the “dairy cliff.” We should allow it to happen. Falling over this kind of cliff could save your life!

However, there are many people that drink milk and still live a healthy, active life. So I cannot believe Milk is really as bad as you are making it out to be.

I drink at least a little milk every day around breakfast time, and I have a baby niece and nephew that are drinking a lot of milk right now, so the price going up to 7$ a gallon would be a huge problem for me. So I certainly hope the milk prices do not rise.

Plus, "best-selling books" are not the best source of accurate information of a scientific nature.

    No kidding..

When all our brood was at home we went thru 3 gallons of milk a week and equal amounts of orange juice.

The kids all had good bones and teeth and glossy hair.

I think milk is a good thing. I drink it even now.. and my secret vice is buttermilk.

Yes we need more revenue to make sure those 12 million soon to be legal immigrants get their free health care.

It is better if the price of milk rises. The dairy sector, like all other agricultural sectors is heavily subsidized. Better yet, repeal the government imposed price floor from 1948. Allow the market to equalize the price of milk and avoid the hassle altogether. Furthermore, this is merely a possible projection as to how expensive will become.

Actually, that is not true. Both Congressional Agriculture Committee leaders agreed to extend the bill, but did not put the measure up for a vote.

It should be the first step in spending cuts.
Very few 'family farmers' left now so it's really corp welfare.

I hear calcium, a main ingredient in milk, is also good for the bones.

I assume good, strong bones are something that a person would want at any age.

Speak for yourself. I crave it, I need it and I am genetically prone to Osteoporosis. As are my kids. Frankly, I'm just fed up with destructive people that advocate others should shun nutritious foods. Proven foods.

That said--I'm not into corporate welfare (including farms bills). I think the market would compensate with opportunities if the government were out of it. Out of the business and out of the regulating.

I concur. One way or another, the real beneficiaries of either government measure are the major agribusiness corporations.

you can find calcium in green leafy vegetables like kale too, but to get kids to eat it you have to drown it in salad dressing.

We just rendered several quarts of old fashioned lard at our house so drinking milk does not concern me much.

I think milk is healthy. Whole milk...not that watered down crap they sell as milk.
