752,000 civilians. Duh! One of your side brought up active before in this debate not me. Now you want to change it because it does not suit your silly argument. Make up your mind. Anyway it is clear from the figures that I provided that the US military have a huge problem with rapes and sexual assaults and in comparison with another military namely the British the US stands out a mile. Of course you as a US military apologist will spend all day defending them, just like Gwen has stated, any old excuse.

The "DoD" includes 750k civilians. The article (which I quote directly from you) says Military...thus these 750k civilians aren't included. The U.S. military is just under 3 million active and reserve people. Civilians are not included in that number.

Are you going to address the "estimate" versus "actual" component of the debate that you've dodged countless times?

You obviously cannot read. It states clearly that there are 2.2 million US military but that includes reserves and national guard. It says that the total for the whole DOD is 3 million. Get someone to help you read it and add up.

    Total, Military 2,264.4

Why? Does not matter if you use the estimate or whatever figures. When you compare the US military figures with the British the US figures are many many more even considering the overall members. You should get a grip on reality apologist. The US military has a huge problem with rape and sexual assaults. The British military had 76 rapes reported in 3 years and the US military towers over that in rape/sexual assault figures. You have a failed argument. I have compared like for like and you are still apologizing for the US military. There is something wrong with you.

    You can use these figures.

To put these cases in perspective, there were 2,947 reports of sexual assaults in the military in 2006, an increase in reports of 24% over 2005.

    http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oew-marshall30jan30,0,510658.story

In 2006 there were 2,947 reports of sexual assaults in the US military.

In the British military in 2007 there were about 25 rapes.

See the difference? Even taking into account that the US military is bigger than the British the numbers still say that the US rate is much much higher than a comparable western military. End of story but I am sure you will find some sad assed excuse to carry on.

If you don't look at the whole picture, sure...

    Oh I guess I missed a few...

So, if you were in fact interested in the whole of the picture, why would you not include all components of the military?

I think I can help here...

See, when you remove 750K-ish Reserve & Guard members, you're able to compare your 19,000 figure against a much smaller number, thus, skewing the rate in favor of your argument...

    Dishonest?

Sure, but, I guess that's how you want to present your argument...

However, when all the facts are presented, well, that changes things...

    Hmmmmm...

I can't really find any number on members of the British military for '07, but, as of 2011, there are 189,650 regular personnel, 37,600 volunteer reservists, and 174,800 regular reservists...

    That's about 402K total...

If I use your 25 rapes figure, that's an extraordinarily low rate...

However, it doesn't change the fact that 19,000 out of 2.2 M is not rampant...

Do you have learning problems? Your posts are some of the most dumb I have ever read. Do you have trouble reading? I have used the figures from 2006 above and compared them with the British figures from 2007 and the US military rate of sexual assault/rape is way way higher. So that says to a normal intelligent person that the US military has a serious problem with sexual assaults to a comparable western military. Is that really to far over your head to understand?

    Shut the (*)(*)(*)(*) up...

Your initial claim that women have a greater chance of being raped in the military than they do in civilian life has been proven to be horse(*)(*)(*)(*) several times...

Maybe the fact that you're now using a different comparison is an admission of your failure...

So, having been disproven, you have decided to compare to the British military...

There seem to be a number of British troops in trouble for rape right now as well...

    Does that make it rampant?

    Nope...

See how easy it is to use logic and not emotion while debating?

But, all you have left are insults...

You are as worthless a debater as I thought you were...

Can you show me where I claimed that? I have been claiming all the way thru this thread that there is a major problem with rapes/sexual assaults in the US military and people like you have spent your time trying to deny that fact. That I compared rapes in US civilian life to rapes in the US military does not mean that my claim was that women have a greater chance of being raped in the US military. I have read some dumb assed posts in my time and most are yours.

    There ya go, "genius"...

From your first post in the thread, on the very first page...

Not bad for a "dumb fecker," an "idiot like you," and the "worst idiot of the century"...

If you don't believe it, then, why post it?

I have repeatedly said that rape is always a problem, but, let's ignore that fact as well...

See, like I said, all you have left are insults...

    You're pathetic...

Take your little (*)(*)(*)(*) ass posts somewhere that you have a more accepting audience, one that isn't as interested in facts...

Actually, this is a more specific example of you claiming that rape is more likely in the military than civilian life...

Just like I said you did...

Why post it if you don't believe it?

Like I said, nothing but insults left...

No,it says that there is a major problem in the US military with rape and sexual assault. Seems your English skills are lacking. It does not say what you are claiming I said either.Another dumb post. I will just put you on ignore as I have read enough of your apologist dumb ass posts. By bye forever. That's better, now I cannot see any more of your dumb ass posts. Sweet.

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — The Department of Defense estimates that more than 19,000 military men and women were sexually assaulted by fellow troops in 2010 while serving in the United States armed forces.

    http://news.yahoo.com/sundance-documentary-examines-rape-us-military-101519990.html

19,000 sexual assaults in the US military in 2010 with a force of 1.5 million or 2.2 with reserves. Now compare that to the British military with a force of 227,000 and reported rapes for 2007-2009(3 years) being 76 which is bad enough and some people are claiming that there is not a problem with rape in the US military.

    http://www.channel4.com/news/military-investigations-fail-rape-victims

The British , 76 rapes in 3 years, that is about 25 rapes per year which is a disgrace anyway and the US military is what? Many many many more. Which ever way you want to cut it the US military has a huge problem with rapes/sexual assaults. Even with the superior US military numbers the rate of assaults is still much much more than a comparable western military.

    Everybody, take note...

This is The Third Man making a claim, then, just above here, he says he didn't...

This is the hallmark of a liar...

And, now, having been thoroughly embarrassed, he has put me on ignore, after, of course, throwing several insults at me...

What a pathetic excuse for a poster...

Run away when you're disproven, instead of admitting that you're wrong...

    Absolutely pathetic...

    See?

All he can do is post this over & over...

    Who thinks <1% is rampant?

The Third Man is an absolute failure of a poster, and, his decision to ignore those who have humiliated him & his pathetic excuse for an argument is proof of just that...

If 80% to 90% of sexual assaults go unreported then those spouting 1% here aren't doing their cause any favours. But particularly they're not doing right for the cause of those sexually assaulted and raped.

But they deal in FACTS here, they claim. One of the salient FACTS, I've learned is that there are bigger fish so perhaps those women and men being sexually assaulted and raped should just go away and stop complaining or seeking justice because they represent a lowly 1%.

Even though 80% - 90% of sexual assaults go unreported.

Too bad. There are bigger fish to fry. No wonder so many assaults go unreported, the attitude of the military would be much like the attitude of the one here who claims there are bigger fish to fry. So much so that those being sexually abused don't dare report what's happened to them... because those in command, wait for it -- have bigger fish to fry.

YOU are the one who used the slogan. That is YOUR slogan. And you used it to describe your level of regard and care for those sexually assaulted and raped in the military. YOUR claim that there are bigger fish to fry than that of dealing with the issue of those sexually assaulted and raped in the military.

The comment also reveals the arrogance of both you and the military towards the plight of those sexually assaulted and raped in the military.

Yes, discount them by maintaining there are bigger fish to fry. It is a really offensive thing to say, and the fact you don't recognise that... is no doubt part of the very big problem that both you and the military have. It is a dismissive thing to say. And speaks a million pictures. So well done, you.

The majority of rape/SA goes unreported across the board, not just in the military...

So, again, you're touting statistics that are no different in the military than in the civilian sector...

And your "bigger fish" thing you keep spouting off is nonsense...

We have repeatedly said that rape/SA is always a problem...

At the same time, the military has taken to try & reduce the number of these occurences...

If you say they haven't, then, you're either lying, or, you honestly don't know what you're talking about...

I totally agree Gwen. These people are not bothered at all by the plight of the victims, they are just here to defend the US military no matter what they do. Yes it really is that sad.

    But they ARE different.

You skimmed right over this in my post, I even made it big font for you:

only 8% of cases that are investigated end in prosecution, compared with 40% for civilians arrested for sex crimes. Astonishingly, about 80% of those convicted are honorably discharged nonetheless.

    http://www.time.com/time/magazine/ar...968110,00.html

Yeah, that's just the same as civilian life. You guys deal in FACTS. No, more like DENIAL. It's that very denial you strut here, that gives us a window on the mentality and regard of the military towards sexual assault and rape. Yes, make it seem like something trivial and tout statistics that are bull(*)(*)(*)(*) and don't represent reality.

80% - 90% of sexual assaults and rapes in the military go unreported. Why is that? The CULTURE of the military? The fear of going to a superior to report it... because of being victimised a second time?

Yeah, just the same as civilian life. Back to la-la land, you go.
