Sounds like a good idea. But, what about the lab work and specialists, if they're needed. The tv show, Royal Pains, works along this line and seems to be just what this story is all about. Read this @ http://dailysignal.com/2014/08/08/consumer-choice-option-health-care/
Basically you pay $135 per month for your primary care physician and nothing else. No relevance to the real world. Another diversion from the real problem of health care in America.
This is just Concierge care. It's not really a model for healthcare, just another consumer option. You still need insurance to cover other medical expenses (like lab work, specialists, or hospitalization).
I'm just wondering - what if you were able to form a special savings account specifically for medical costs? Then, if you were in need of medical care, you could bargain for it, seeking the lowest costs for care and ancillary services such as labs. That means those who are in good health and do not feel the need for insurance could save up that money for a "rainy day" when it is needed.
The problem with an HSA is that most people could never save enough to cover expenses if there was an emergency. Again, HSA's are a nice consumer option, but they aren't an answer.
