A D.C. grocery store is removing Tide, Colgate and Advil to deter theft - The Washington Post

Yeeaaaaah! Socialism is being pushed into poor neighborhoods in the U.S. Finally, U.S. shoppers will be able to share in equal misery - Soviet Style. No more name brands for us! I hear convenient shopping hours are also going the way of the Dodo. Can't wait for long lines.

All the socialists here should be so proud of their accomplishment. D.C. is on its way to be a socialist paradise.

DC has always been a high crime city. Particularly SE DC. Nothing now like the 90s, when DC was the murder capital of the US. Now DC has implemented some progressive laws such as no pretrial detention of young criminals. So I will go out on a limb and say things are not going to improve.

Anyone my age living in Northern VA back in the day remembers frequent trips to DC, i.e., to this place.

But it's the choice of a private corporation not to carry those brands, so really it's capitalism in action. The capitalists are taking away products to protect their bottom line and not investing enough in security, because that would take too much cash away from the executives and shareholders.

This post is mostly irrelevant to the article in the OP. Murder and theft are not the same. Murder rate is only used because it's harder for places to cook the books. Of course, they still do.

Giant foods and grocery stores had no problems selling Tide in the 1990s because murder does not equal theft. Please stop conflating the two.

The bedrock of socialism is the lack of respect for private property. This lack of respect is causing Giant foods to stop selling Tide and stopping every customer at the door to check receipt. This is a new problem. It has nothing to do with the problems you wrote about.

I really have no clue what your alcoholism back in the day which you mention in your post has to do with the article.

So, what you are saying is instead of stopping crime, force owner/operators to supply more security measures? Doing that would increase all product pricing exponentially as who do you think actually will pay for added security and losses? You!

No matter how the Left tries to twist things, the end result means you pay for all costs either due to theft or increased security.

In addition, do you think a security guard can actually touch a criminal? All they can do is document and talk to them.

I predict that in left run cities, all products will be behind glass where people pay first then pick up items on way out.

Many American cities have become cesspools. It's one of the many signs of the collapse of society and constitutional governance, like the personal health of Biden, McConnell and Feinstein. The American Experiment is coming to a halt.
