It’s not often I’m jealous of Scandis — frigid weather most of the time, socialist governments, ridiculous taxes... okay, the women are pretty hot, but you can only have so much sex before… uhhhh where was I again? But they've contrived a solid reason to provoke some envy, apart from their wimminfolk: Finland has announced it will open 300 shooting ranges in a bid to encourage citizens to take a greater interest in national defence. Under the Finnish constitution, every male aged between 18 and 60 must complete national army service but the government hopes that civilians will keep their weapons skills after the period of conscription with the new range proposals. Jukka Kopra, the Finnish politician, said: “The present government aims to increase the number of shooting ranges in Finland from roughly 600-700 up to 1,000. “This is because of our defence model, which benefits from people having and developing their shooting skills on their own.” Note: not state-controlled or supervised, but individual practice. And a thousand ranges, in a country roughly the size of Oregon? That probably works out to a Sako behind every snow drift. Plus, they’re practicing to shoot Russians, which gives me the warm fuzzies.
I wouldn't mind living in Scandinavia except for the cold!!!!!! Otherwise, seems like a nice place to live. An additional note: the gun laws in general in Scandinavia are much stricter than in the US. They also have low incidence rates of gun violence. Just sayin'...................
Too much socialism and high taxes…… Accompanied by universal health care (for far less than you pay), universal college eduction (if desired), a very high standard of living (as high, or higher than the US), and very little crime. I guess it hasn’t occurrred to you that Finland is opening gun ranges in order to train civilians in the art of warfare, in response the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and his routine threats to ring the Iron Curtain back down. Both of which Trump nation now supports.
I have a bud called Fin, hence the name from Finland, you ask him what brought him here, and first thing on the list, Finland takes everything you make in tax's He is a bad ass though, he's 91 now and still out works 20 years old on the oil rigs!!!
Sounds like an interesting guy. I take it he never took advantage of much of what the Finnish welfare state had to offer, and that the oil companies provide him with gold plated health insurance. Finland regularly tops the surveys of the happiest people on earth. I changed planes there once. But I’ve been to Sweden, Norway and Denmark. I would live in any one of them were it not for the climate!
