so, you make someone else responsible for your own personal safety................................ and that baseball bat notion will get you killed
I knew when I started reading this thread, it wouldn't be long before the anti-gun meme's would start floating to the top of the toilet bowl First place meme comment: gun owners are the epitome of paranoid
States without a Castle Doctrine are basically telling the homeowner he can't protect his own property or his life or his family if a low-life scumbag breaks into his home. Long live the states with the Castle Doctrine! As far as I'm concerned you should be able to shoot any intruder who breaks in because that intruder is instantly a threat to your life and property regardless if he is armed. Besides, it's good population control.
Uh... I think I'd prefer to be "paranoid" according to your definition rather then walking around while crapping my pants. American way: Have a tool that you can use to protect yourself and your family with just in case (when seconds count the police are just minutes away) Canadian/liberal way: Walking around with a load of crap in their pants hoping the police will save them in time (later support the bad guy when he accuses the police of excessive force while resisting arrest) I think that pretty much sums it up folks
Not very "green". Ever hear of recycling? Takes alot of energy and resources to manufacture a fire arm.
fair point...but that would've cost me more in fuel cost to take it to a metal recycler than I would have been paid for the metal value...so it went to a garbage dump to be placed back into the ground where it originated...
I just hate the thought of someone destroying a perfectly good gun. Guns are one of the only things made these days that are quality and meant to last. Some of my most prized possessions are guns handed down to me by my father and grand father and someday my sons will have them.
and if you would look at the details of those homicides you find vast majority are between people who already knew each other...extremely few are randon intruder\stranger murders...if you're going to be killed it's more likely to be by the person who sleeps beside you than an intruder/stranger and you've conveniently supplied the weapon to do so...
I have 14 in my safe that came from Dad, and some of those came from his dad. I took my CCW shooting test with a 1956 Colt Woodsman that my dad bought new. They, like yours, are amongst my most prized possessions. If ever there was an example of the phrase '...from my cold dead hands will these be pried', it is in those guns.
I get that but to me they're inanimate objects I have no such attachment to them any more than I would a washing machine...and my mother gave me her washing machine...
Here's my take, you're a dead man either way....whether it is death by a gun or baseball bat or cast iron skillet, knife, or fire, the weapon makes no difference murder is a crime regardless of the weapon used. I would suggest, however, if your mate is really that pissed off, don't sleep...............
....if you can (*)(*)(*)(*) off your mate so much that they'd consider homicide a viable choice you either have horrible taste in people or you should be staying up at night pondering what a horrible person you are. Maybe a little bit of both.
Probably just a culture thing. America is guns, baseball and apple pie. Some of my best memories are when I was 10 or so going camping in the desert, hunting cotton tails and cooking them over a fire.Me my dad and grampa, good times.
doesnt change the fact if you're going to be murdered it will be by someone you know not a random stranger and you won't get the opportunity to retrieve your gun...
spousal murders are crimes of passion, the intensity of the relationship is the trigger...and no one knows what their mate is capable of...
me? I sleep like a well-armed baby.........got no worries, (others maybe not so much) so I know you weren't directing that at me.
and you'll drown in your own pool, fall off your own ladder, drunken driving death.......you point goes across the board to all walks of life. ...............and this is the second meme:
So do I the diferrence being if that in the unlikely event someone does try to break in and murdered I have better protection.
I think your attachment is to your father and grandfather and not to the guns, the guns are your sentimental connection to them...and you'd give them up in second to have them back...
They are not paranoid they are sensible. The logic is akin to that of condoms. I carry them on my person in my car and keep them in my bedroom because I would rather have them and not need one than need one and not have it. Same with a gun. The only difference I use the condoms in real world situations more than guns.
