It just occured to me that a gun is a tool- like a hammer or a saw. All a gun does is click a pin into a space. An unloaded gun is practically worthless because it's little more than a pound of metal- it does nothing by itself; it's a toy. But the moment you put bullets into it- bullets made by different companies (gun makers don't even make bullets for the guns they make!) it's a deadly weapon that can kill. Well, so is a hammer. A hammer is as dangerous as an unloaded gun- I take it we all agree to this. If I wanted to rob a 24 hour store, a hammer would be as potentially dangerous as an unloaded gun is... both have the potential to kill. I think hammers as tools or machines should be legal- I will give all of you gun nuts that much. For anyone who has ever seen "The Fifth Element", I think a gun/machine gun/uzi/50 cal/grenade launcher/anti personnel missile/tactical nuke/arm-sized weapon should be legal. Do we all agree to this 50% of the equation???
Um.... some gun manufacturers do make their own ammunition. Guns are a tool, however the inclusion of ammunition does not make them dangerious, but the inclusion of a user. I can chambed my M&P right now, and leave it on the table before going to work. It will remain there until acted about be an eternal force.
I just noticed you have a quote from our lost Prophet. Mr. Hicks. That particular piece is by far one of my favorites.
Talking about the legality of GUNS- you know, the tool that is a gun. They should be absolutely legal and without restraint, except in inner cities I suppose.
Hicks is a few steps above Maher. Check it out: http://youtu.be/eH6mKLqe4Yc Hicks was close to Tool while he was alive, and AEnima was dedicated to Mr. Hicks: "Another Dead Hero". Eh, legal, yes. But not without regulations.
Yeah a gun is a tool, but its primary purpose is to kill. so a tool with great responsibility tied to it, but a tool nonetheless. I believe that every human being and animal has a right to defend itself from harm. in a society where "criminals" will have guns, legal or not (black market), then it would be unfair to remove a "citizens" right to defend themselves and others in the most effective way on par with the criminals who would harm them.
