In another thread, I saw a poster write:

Not sure if the poster is correct, but if he/she is, it is time to correct that omission.

I think Hillary Clinton is an intelligent, resourceful, competent person who will make a fine president.

She screws up plenty...as do most of our politicians. They have a very hard row to hoe...a most demanding audience.

She lies...as do most of our politicians...and most of our fellow human beings.

She is resilient...and has survived three decades of vilification at the hands of people determined to paint her as evil personified.

I acknowledge that I will get lots of satisfaction if she wins the presidency in November (which I expect her to do)...not only because I think she will be a fine leader, but because it will rub her detractors noses raw.

I have wanted to vote for her for years now...and I am delighted I will finally get the opportunity on Election Day.

    I am actually that poster.

I just want to say, I know the proper use of "there" and I'm embarrassed.

You are kind to remove my name.

But unlike Hillary, I will own it.

Must of been in a hurry.

And 5 hours later, this is the only thread, and only because I said that. And it has no posts. LMAO

Nice initiative, it would be good to discuss her merits and perhaps shortcomings in an adult way.

For you right-wing conspiracy fans, I'll get your response out of the way. Benghazi! e-mails! Will destroy America! (sounds familiar, after 8 years of warnings about Obama, America is shockingly still very much alive), Saul Alinski!, Obama is a secret muslim! Donald Trump's farts don't stink!

Ok, now that that's done, I agree I admire her resilience and persistence. She is clearly intelligent and very detail-oriented. And after being attacked for so long, I'm pretty sure she won't fly off the handle and think things through first. She can also be cold and calculating, which I consider a plus in many situations a president faces. I'm pretty sure she will also not even try to play nice with Republicans in congress, meaning she might get stuff done. She does seem fairly hawkish at times, maybe deliberately so most people don't underestimate her. Much is made about her "vote for the Iraq war", but again, the story is more complex than that. The wording of what congress voted for effectively states that they authorize the president to use any means necessary including force in case it's deemed necessary. Basically, it means you put trust in the president's judgement, which is different to actively promoting the war. I'm pretty sure she is a realist though and she'd think long and hard about committing American lives to an actual conflict.

However, she has made some pretty iffy judgement calls. Regardless of the white noise around the e-mail scandal, using a private server was not a good move, certainly if you consider how it looks. It's left her wide open. I have no doubt a secretary of state handles plenty of classified information; that's a pretty damn good reason to use a secure government server. She probably wanted to do some work from home and communicate through her prviate account, but anything serious should not have been sent that way (allthough there were only about 3 e-mails deemed to be classified) And she's certainly done a (*)(*)(*)(*)-poor job explaining why she needed it. At best she's rather secretive and not technically savvy.

Another thing that bothers me is that despite her unpopularity, baggage and loss to Obama in 2008 and this new scandal, she still decided to run for president, again. This would have affected who else was going to throw their hat in the ring. I think Bernie's a thoroughly decent guy, but there are better and more electable candidates the dems could have chosen. (I still believe Bernie would have been smeared as a communist and radical in the general, some of which could have stuck; probably could still have beaten Trump regardless) So she must believe she can make a difference and she clearly loves politics; most candidates have a huge ego, but she clearly made the decision knowing she was unpopular.

In the end, she was lucky in her opposition and she'll probably win, but could face a very hard re-election unless she faces somebody like Ted Cruz. (also likely)

As for the Republicans, even if I tend to agree with most of the Democratic platform, I am genuinely unhappy about the state of the party. They have abdicated any and all responsibility as the opposition party by becoming purely obstructionist and constantly crying wolf with completely ridiculous and exaggerated claims. (to hear Fox news tell it under Obama, every week saw a scandal "bigger than Watergate") As a result, most people stop caring, even when there actually is something there. And bascially it has left most reasonable people with only the choice of voting Dem. More people would consider a Republican if he/she actually payed attention to science and stopped kowtowing to the Religious right.

So in a nutshell, Hillary will probably do fine, she has clear qualities, but she is also very capable of shooting herself in the foot. More than anything though she will suffer from a lack of mature opposition and probably continued obstruction from the house of representatives.

    Thanks, TLD.

Now it has posts...and I hope it has more before all is said and done.

I agree with you that most people seem to be focusing on Donald Trump's negatives...rather than Hillary Clinton's positives...but negative campaigning seems to be the norm for American presidential elections.

I hope, as the election goes on, that the electorate will divorce itself from the constant stream of negativity toward Hillary. It has been in place since her husband won election in '92...and showed that American conservatism did not have the near veto power over the presidency it thought it did.

I think and hope she will be elected...and I think and hope she will do as good a job as president as anyone can do these days.

    Not an easy job.

    Good points all, Esvees.

I hope at the end of this thing...we can all reunite as one nation and start to break down the huge division we have formed in our political life.

    We'll see.

Good try but you haven't actually mentioned anything specific, pro or con. There are no pro-Hillary threads because by design, she is not running on her record or her platform, she is running entirely as the anti-Trump.

I have mentioned specifics. In my opinion, she is (as I said) an intelligent, resourceful, competent person. Those are qualities I consider essential in a leader.

She most assuredly is NOT "running entirely as the anti-trump." (I find it interesting that you think that.)

In any case, I am interested in protecting and expanding the safety-net programs we have in place...and I think she will effort in that direction. I expect she will meet with lots of resistance from the Republicans (which I understand), but I think she is a determined individual who will deal reasonably and successfully with that resistance.

Those are descriptors. Descriptors aren't specifics. Why is she intelligent (is Trump not intelligent?), how has she shown herself to be resourceful (moreso than the other guy), how has she shown herself to be competent.

What are her policies that you support? How would she expand the "safety net"? Do you actually know specifics or are these all buzz-words. It's more specific than saying "Hillary good" but nothing actionable has been described. Saying "expand the safety net" is not specific enough to be actionable.

Hillary has pretty much taken everything that Sanders wanted for her own. If you were for Sanders you should vote for Hillary

The only point of real disagreement in this respect is that she is standing up to the Murdere....oh, sorry, gun lobby. For that alone she gets my vote.

    Oh...and...

As a former secretary of state, U.S. senator, first lady, and a lifelong advocate for women and families, no one is more qualified to be president than Hillary.
2.Hillary knows child care, equal pay, and paid leave are fundamental economic issues—not just “women’s issues.”
    3.
4.Our democracy should work for everyone—not just the wealthy and well-connected.
5.Our next president could make multiple appointments to the Supreme Court.
6.We need comprehensive background checks on gun purchases.
7.She’ll fight to overturn Citizens United to curb the outsized influence of big money in politics.
8.Because the wealthiest should pay their fair share in taxes.
9.We need comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to full and equal citizenship.
10.She’s set a big goal: More than half a billion solar panels installed across the country by the end of her first term.
11.She’s set another big goal: To generate enough renewable energy to power every home in America within 10 years of her taking office.
12.The economy is stronger when a Democrat is in the White House.

13.Hillary will defend Planned Parenthood and women’s health care from Republican attacks.

14.Hillary’s New College Compact would mean students would never have to borrow to pay for tuition to attend a four-year public college in their state—and the millions of Americans who have student debt can refinance.
15.Because taxpayers shouldn’t pay for millionaires’ and billionaires’ kids to go to college.
    16.Guaranteed paid family leave.
17.She declared on the world stage that “gay rights are human rights.”
18.Experts say Hillary’s plan to keep Wall Street accountable is the toughest of all Democratic candidates.
19.As first lady, she helped get health care coverage for 8 million American children.
20.Our veterans should have access to timely and high quality health care.
21.She’s the only Democrat with hedge-fund billionaires running ads against her—because they know her agenda is to stop their agenda.
22.After decades of fighting for progressive issues (and 11 straight hours of testimony in front of a Republican-led congressional committee), she’s proved nobody can stand up to Republicans better than she can.
23.Hillary believes that raising middle-class incomes is the defining economic challenge of our time—and she has a plan to do just that.
24.Suspected terrorists, domestic abusers, other violent criminals, and the severely mentally ill shouldn’t be able to purchase a gun.
25.Because every 4-year-old in America should be able to go to a high-quality preschool in the next 10 years.
26.We need to invest in infrastructure and rebuild or expand our roads, bridges, rail, broadband, public transit, and water and energy infrastructure.
27.We need to protect Americans’ right to vote—not billionaires’ and corporations’ right to buy elections.

28.Have you seen the Republican debates?

29.Hillary will work to keep families together and defend President Obama’s executive actions that protect DREAMers.
30.She has spent her life fighting for a fairer America.
31.She’s been fighting for women and children her entire career—ever since she started working at the Children’s Defense Fund after law school.
32.She believes we need a new and comprehensive commitment to equity and opportunity for communities of color.
33.She’ll empower veterans and strengthen our economy and communities by connecting their unique skills to the jobs of the future.
34.Prescription drugs still cost too much. Hillary has a plan to reduce the cost of prescription drugs.
35.As senator, she championed the Paycheck Fairness Act and co-sponsored the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to help close the wage gap so women earn equal pay.
36.Community college should be tuition-free for every American.
37.It’s time to close the Charleston loophole that lets otherwise prohibited individuals buy a gun if their background check is not complete in three days.
    38.
39.Hillary negotiated a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that ended the rain of rockets on Israel.
40.Smart power is a smart strategy.
41.We need a president who will crack down on companies that send profits overseas to avoid paying their fair share.
42.She’ll defend Social Security and Medicare against Republican attacks.
43.We need a president with a plan to protect the transgender community from violence.

44.If Congress continues its refusal to act on comprehensive immigration reform, Hillary has a plan to act—and do everything possible under the law to protect families.

45.She knows how to find common ground to get the job done—but also how to stand her ground.
46.Hillary is prepared to tackle all challenges, including national security—because presidents don’t get to choose which issues come to their desks.
47.She has a plan to reform mandatory minimum sentencing.
    48.We need a small-business president.
49.Because every American citizen should be automatically registered to vote when they turn 18, unless they opt out. Hillary will get it done.
    50.
    51.She’s a progressive—and she’s a progressive who gets things done.
52.Immigration enforcement must be humane and targeted—and she’ll end family detention and close private detention centers.
53.Hillary has a plan to reduce the risk of future financial crises.
54.Because we should hold corporations and individuals on Wall Street accountable—and prosecute them when they break the law.

    55.She’s one tough mother.

56.She fought for health care for 9/11 first responders as a U.S. senator—and she’s been a vocal advocate for a permanent renewal of the Zadroga Act.
57.It’s time to end for-profit private prisons in America.
58.The Affordable Care Act is working—but you could still use a lower co-pay and deductible.
59.Hillary will defend and fight to restore collective bargaining rights for workers.
60.She knows historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) serve an important public mission and will make a significant commitment to them.
61.We need to end the sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine.
    62.
63.Because it’s time to end conversion “therapy” for LGBT minors.
64.Hillary will put a stop to Republicans’ systematic efforts to stop millions of people from voting.
65.We need a president who will fight to restore the protections of the Voting Rights Act after they were gutted by the Supreme Court.
66.Hillary helped negotiate the toughest sanctions Iran has ever faced.
67.She’s earned the wrath of the gun lobby, Iran, pharmaceutical companies, and special interests—and that should tell you something about who she’s fighting for.
68.She has a plan to invest in American manufacturing and revitalize communities that have lost manufacturing jobs.

69.She knows what’s going on in Laos.

70.She believes we should let families buy into the Affordable Care Act health care exchanges regardless of immigration status.
71.Prison is not a substitute for treatment for drug addiction and mental health issues—Hillary knows that and will do something about it.
72.We can create a new national standard of no fewer than 20 days of early in-person voting in every state.
73.Because those at the top are doing just fine. It’s your family who needs a fighter in the White House.
    74.
75.Hillary has a plan to combat America’s deadly epidemic of drug and alcohol addiction.
76.In the words of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: “I’ve never met anyone more prepared to be president.”
77.She has a plan to make our financial system fairer and more accountable.
78.High-quality K–12 education needs to be a priority for every child in America.
79.As secretary of state, Hillary lobbied for the first-ever U.N. Human Rights Council resolution on LGBT human rights.
80.She made LGBT rights a priority of U.S. foreign policy.

81.In the words of the Advocate, Hillary has an “awesome LGBT agenda” to protect and expand LGBT rights.

82.She’s not afraid to stand up to discriminatory attempts to roll back voting rights in places like Alabama.
83.Hillary knows Muslim Americans are helping our communities succeed and are our first, last, and best line of defense against radical jihadism.
84.Unlike the Republicans, Hillary will defend marriage equality nationwide.
85.She will provide funding to make sure body cameras are available to every police department in America to increase accountability on both sides of the lens.
    86.Keith in New Hampshire
87.She’ll expand on-campus child care and scholarships to help student parents balance going to school with raising a child.
88.The NRA has never helped Hillary get elected.
89.Her first major address as a presidential candidate was a call to end the “era of mass incarceration.”
90.She’ll fight to end racial profiling in America.
91.She’ll hold irresponsible gun dealers and manufacturers fully accountable if they endanger Americans—and that includes repealing the gun industry’s unique immunity protection.
92.She worked to expand the Family Medical Leave Act, allowing families of those wounded in service to their country to take leave in order to care for their loved ones.
    93.
94.Family members who care for ailing parents and grandparents could use some tax relief.
95.She has called out the Republicans’ offensive, inflammatory anti-Muslim rhetoric because she knows it’s against our values as Americans—and our national security.
96.Because when a company does well, the employees who helped produce those profits deserve a share in them—not just CEOs.
97.She believes we should use alternatives to incarceration for low-level, nonviolent marijuana users, and she will reschedule marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule II substance.
98.She’s not afraid to to call out Republicans for blocking efforts to keep guns from suspected terrorists.
99.She helped lead the charge to raise the minimum wage as a senator.
100.Building international coalitions advances our values, interests, and makes the world safer. Hillary is the only candidate who’s actually done it.
101.She worked across the aisle to expand health care access for members of the National Guard and reservists—making sure those who served and their families had access to health care when they returned home.

102.We should put American families over the gun lobby—and Hillary is not afraid to stand up to the NRA.

103.There are cities across the country that are already leading on climate change—so she’ll launch a Clean Energy Challenge that will form new partnerships with states, cities, and rural communities.
104.She’ll “ban the box” so people who have a past conviction can get a fair shot at employment.
105.When Hillary was secretary of state, the U.S. extended antiretroviral therapy—which helps HIV/AIDS patients live longer, healthier lives—to 78 countries.
106.Businesses should be encouraged to train and hire apprentices.
107.The nation’s leading advocates for gun violence prevention have said Hillary’s plan is the right strategy.
108.Because women’s rights are human rights.
109.Because even when people didn’t want her to go to China and stand up for human rights at the 1995 U.N. Conference on Women in Beijing, she did it anyway.
110.Because a woman’s place is in the White House.
    111.Donald Trump. Enough said.

"Wall Street Whore." Real classy wording!

Hillary Clinton will get done as much as she can get done...and almost certainly it will be in a direction I favor.

One man's loss of freedom...is another's gaining of it.

You're gonna get war in one form or another for a long time to come. We humans have essentially just come down out of the trees. Brutish animals! Look at how the humans here in the forum get along!

Or...she can do it the Republican way...put it on a credit card and let future generations pay for it.

    Six of one!

She may not be awesome...but she will be a reasonable president.

    Really?

So...when "the government" took Charles Manson's freedom from him...we all lost our freedom?

    I didn't realize that.

Her detractors have thrown the kitchen sink at her ever since her husband had the audacity to win an election the conservatives thought belonged to them.

She has weathered the storm like a trooper.

She is head and shoulders a better choice than the 17 wannabe's the GOP started with...especially the one they chose as the winner among the group!

She's not perfect by a long shot...but much better than what else is being offered is tough stuff.

I think she is gonna make a fine president...and I wouldn't be surprised to see her win re-election by a larger margin than she wins her first term.

"I like Hillary, she's nice, she is a trooper" is not a pro-Hillary thread by any stretch of imagination.

Here is what would make a great pro-Hillary thread:

-"In 25 years in public services these Hillary's accomplishments have improved lives of American people..." (followed by a long list of incredible accomplishments)
-"Hillary's presidential platform has these amazing new ideas for the country ..." (followed by a list of Hillary's innovative ideas to solve the country's problems)

I've challenged a lot of people on this forum, no one has even tried. Are you up to it?
