Reading this story, I couldn't help but get the impression that a similar situation has probably played out millions of times over the course of history as people start espousing views that do not mesh with the popular opinion of the area. In fact, I recalled reading the book "The Robe" which was about a Roman officer assigned to serve with the unit that ended up overseeing the crucifixion of Christ. Afterwards, he is moved by the effect Christ's robe has on him, and the book goes on to deal with his own personal conversion to primitive Christianity(it was very new at that point, obviously).

An interesting read to say the least. I hope that more and more people like the man in this article come to the forefront and promote a secular rational worldview. The best parts of deist religions are already reflected in secular humanism anyway, it's just minus all the fear and threats, superstition, and fake science.

The article quoted below is only a small chunk of the entire thing. I could not include it because there is a 10,000 character limit in my post, and the article was something like 22k. Follow the link below to read the whole thing.
