Back in 1968, the young Democrats were hopping mad when Lyndon Johnson handed the presidential nomination to Hubert Humphrey. Gene McCarthy and Robert Kennedy had campaigned hard for the nomination in the primaries. Humphrey did virtually nothing except kiss Johnson's posterior. Humphrey won one delegate in the New York State primary. This was it. Yet the nomination was sewed up for him when the convention opened in Chicago. The result was a riot outside of the convention and huge split within the Democrat Party. Humphrey and his running mate, Ed Muskie issued this "cool" button, but it didn't help. This button summed up the attitude of many. I've recycled this vintage button for Donald Trump. His cult will probably get the nomination for him, but he has about a 2% chance of winning at a time when the country needs a new direction and new, younger leadership. So here is my Trump button.
One can only hope both parties dump their main candidates. Just a daydream, but I'd love to see a Larry Hogan/Joe Manchin ticket.
