I have a considerable interest in Coal Seam Gas stories. This is one of them: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-...-statement-a-sovereign-risk3a-shorten/2838624 Lets see if Abbott follows through: I honestly doubt he will back Greens legislation, though it has happened before. The almighty dollar (and the CSG industry has a lot of those, with a view to a lot more) trumps the next election or even untainted water supplies.
Nope, he doesn't. How predictable. Why the Nationals stay permanently allied is a total mystery. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-15/tony-abbott-backs-down-on-coal-seam-gas/2840014 Frakking Labor played politics with it too.
Well I hate to state the obvious. Big business makes donations to both of the major parties. I'm confident it's not out of their respect for the institution of democracy. Both parties gladly take the money. Can anyone tell me why they do this? I'm being sarcastic. What I don't understand is why people, knowing this, still vote for them. What a strange place the world is.
It is very simple. It all depends on the audience. When Abbott is talking to farmers - he doesn't support the mining industry. Opposition Leader Tony Abbott stirred the debate last week when he said farmers should have the right to refuse coal seam gas drillers access to their land. But when Abbott is talking to mining companies - he does support the mining industry. On Monday he watered down his position and said land use decisions were "fundamentally a matter for the states" and the mining industry was important and should be "broadly supported". http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-...ining-negotiation-powers/2840306/?site=sydney Just like when Abbott addresses a crowd of climate change deniers, he will say "climate change is crap" - but he wont mention to them how his party ALSO intends to use tax payers money to achieve exactly the same emission reduction targets as the government. Mr Abbott knows that many of the people who would consider voting for him are very, very stupid - and hence he gets away with this
Abbott will back donors, mining companies. Farmers will always be kicked in the teeth. http://on.fb.me/ipVbk8
It's also a non-issue for most people. CSG worries me a lot, but it doesn't worry many people. Talking at work, most people have zero notion of what it's about. Everyone should watch Gasland. And there was a good 4 Corners episode of it.
