The mainstream media seems to love portraying President Donald Trump as an enemy of the free press — a claim that he sometimes plays into, judging by his frequent criticisms of outlets like CNN and use of the term “fake news.”

In contrast, former President Barack Obama’s administration was often presented as open and transparent. But those two narratives may be incredibly inaccurate, at least if the political director for ABC News is correct.

Earlier this week, ABC’s Rick Klein, who has covered Washington politics since 2004, made a stunning statement to CBN News: Despite his reputation, Trump is actually more open with the media than Obama or former President George W. Bush.

“In terms of just the access to the thinking of the president and what the president is doing, this White House is above and beyond, far and away more accessible,” the political veteran confirmed.

“The amount of the information flowing out of the president himself, not to mention the White House itself, is unparalleled,” Klein said.

A lot of that comes from social media including Twitter. While Trump has been widely criticized for using the online platform too often, the ABC News political director admitted that this has changed the face of news and will impact how future administrations communicate with the public.

“Klein acknowledged Trump’s savvy ability to control the media narrative and when asked if Trump has changed the way future presidents and politicians will communicate, he answered without hesitation: ‘100 thousand percent,'” CBN reported.

“In every way that I can think about he’s changed the way that a president communicates: the way a president articulates positions, the way the president communicates with world leaders as well as the public,” Klein continued.

Do you agree that the Trump administration is actually more open that previous presidents?
To the chagrin of the left, that has allowed Trump to frequently control the narrative by taking a direct approach to communicating his message to voters.

“He used the megaphone of Twitter and also kind of informal statements and media availability in and around his day-to-day in such a radically different way,” the Washington insider said.

Democrats, meanwhile, seem to be struggling to have their message heard.

“I’ve talked to more Democratic politicians who wish we would stop covering Trump entirely and focus instead on the issues that separate Democrats from Republicans,” Klein stated.

In other words, Trump is beating the left at their own game: He has woven his message into the culture, using a platform — Twitter — that is well documented as being politically leftist.

RELATED: Poll on Trump’s ‘Animals’ Comment Hands the President Another Big Win https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/abc-politics-trump-more-open/ The article goes on to describe how the democrats are frustrated with this turn of events. They want the media to stop covering him at all. I think this is great news. He’s going around the msm to get his message out to the people just as Reagan did.

Precisely so. Trump has been playing the leftist media and through them the leftist leadership. They STILL don't know how he defeated Hillary Clinton merely by telling the entire nation the truth about her and about the Left's leadership in general since THEY have collectively been telling lies from the get-go and in their experience the biggest liar almost always wins. It just goes to show that they have nothing but contempt for the intellectual abilities of the average citizen.

Social media is changing the face of politics. Glad you are finally starting to figure it out.

Too bad your criminal and thug abuses that to deceive the gullible.

Trump stopped giving out a visitor's list
Trump stopped giving out troop counts in any country with a conflict
    Trump lies about everything
His press secretaries lie about a lot of things

The fact that he spends half his day tweeting and that his staff leaks more than any administration in history doesn't make it "transparent".

So you are calling the blatantly leftist political director of ABC news a liar? Sweet!

Either you agree with the professional assessment of the leftist specialist in charge of assessing such things or you don't. If you do not agree with him then you are asserting either that he is a liar or an incompetent. Personally since he is a leftist working as a director of propaganda for the DNC I am good with which ever one of those two options you select.

Having different beliefs doesn't make someone a liar.

Actually it pretty much does when the leftist in question makes his living doing what he is doing and just put that professional reputation on the line before his peers. So is he a liar or merely incompetent?

On the other places I frequent, their progressives believe exactly that. That to express an opinion differing from theirs is to be a liar .

This does not come as any surprise. Why? Because Trump has an urgent need to always be the center of attention. He must be the star, which is why he does all the talking for his administration. He does not wish to share the limelight with Pompeo, Mattis, Bolton or anyone else. The lone exception might be Giuliani, but the former New York mayor is Trump's alter ego. He speaks for Trump, saying what Trump would love to say, but can't.

However, so while Trump is accessible 24/7, it is always on his terms. His preferred communication is Twitter. Why? Because the communication is one way, his way. True, others may respond to his tweets, some negatively, but Trump is under no obligation to reply.

Many times he holds his news conferences on the lawn of the White House, not in the White House, to the tune of Marine One's chopper blades. Everyone is forced to shout, including Trump, and the questions from reporters are barely audible, which is just the way Trump wants it. He does not want to share the limelight with reporters, either. Nice thing about being on the front lawn is, when he gets a question he doesn't like, he can simply walk away, which he does often.

Other times he holds his news conferences on Air Force One with jet engines in the background with similar circumstances as the lawn news conferences.

He will often hold news conferences when entertaining a foreign dignitary. Unfortunately, most of the news conferences are taken up by statements from Trump and the foreign visitor. The questions afterward are severely limited in number and asked by friendly reporters. John Roberts from Fox is Trump's favorite. Even then, Trump has been known to cut the news conference short and quickly exit the room when a rebel reporter asks an unscripted question.

Most telling of all, Trump refuses to hold a regular press conference with the White House press corps in the press room. The kind Sarah Sanders holds routinely every week. Trump has had one. That was in February 2017 and it was a disaster. He lost control of the press conference and his infantile anger at reporters made him look like a fool. This explains why he will not hold another. The truth is, he is scared to death of savvy reporters from the respected news media. There is no other explanation for the 64-year break in prededence.

So, while he insists on being a daytime television star, he is a secretive President. He feels no need to communicate openly to the American people. He may have Klein fooled, but the American people are not fooled. Trump is a performer, much like an actor. That does not mean his administration is open and transparent as Klein would have us believe.

    K. If you say so. Not sure what that has to do with this discussion.

Fine, Trump is more open with the media than the two previous. As my post expresses, I believe that assessment to be false, but let's assume for the moment that it is true.

"Who's going to give back the young and beautiful lives (and others) that have been devastated and destroyed by the phony Russia Collusion Witch Hunt? They journeyed down to Washington, D.C., with stars in their eyes and wanting to help our nation...They went back home in tatters!" Trump tweeted Sunday morning.

Somebody tell me what this transparent President is he talking about.

    Lost idealism.
