ACT scores up, more US students ready for college

By Amanda Paulson, Staff writer / August 17, 2011

The results also showed a significant race-based achievement gap. Just 4 percent of African-Americans met the benchmarks in all four subjects, compared with 11 percent of Hispanics and American Indians, 15 percent of Pacific Islanders, 31 percent of whites, and 41 percent of Asian-Americans. At least 50 percent of African-American, Hispanic, and American-Indian students didn’t meet any of the four benchmarks

    ----------------------------------------------------------

Note that the asians outperformed even whites. You liberals who claim these tests are biased towards whites need to explain that. Haha

I'm curious what you think needs to be done about the race disparity in testing scores.

Time to cancel all race-based affirmative action programs. They are based on the idea the races are mentally equal but clearly they are not.

You think white people are smarter than black people, is what you're saying? And Asians are smarter than whites?

I didn't make this world. Why are blacks such failures? Why is all of black africa third world? Why can't blacks in america make it? All the affirmative action they get and they're still failures.

ACT scores are a poor indicator of success in College. The ACT board even stated this.

The scores are more of an indicator of preparation...normally EXPENSIVE preparation. So ACTs are basically just a socio-economic filter even though they have no correlation with college success.

Again you lie. The preparation is very cheap. Libraries have lots of ACT prep books with sample tests. Or you can buy the books at a thrift store for a couple books or buy brand new books at a book store.

You really do need to stop trying to vilify and put-down Black people; your irrational animus is showing far more than you seem to realize.

No one should listen to 'you'.

African-Americans have a strong tendency to be born in America, in case you didn't notice so I don't think you're "stop all immigration" tactic works here.

As long as you blacks insist on affirmative action, you're gonna have to put up with people like me. Whites are tired of being blamed for black failure.

You are very correct, Speeders R Murderers.

Bill Cosby had a lot to say as to why these test scores remain so low in the black community.

When parents don't stress education, why should we be surprised when their children don't do well on these academic test scores? Could this be a result of the law of unintended consequences?

    ... You think?

    You are very mistaken, Johnny-C.

You first have to recognize there is a problem before you can come up with a way and a means to sucessfully solve it.

Do you really believe Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter was wrong when he made these statement to his black congregation?

There was research years ago where "experts" told teachers that certain students they would have in the coming year were slow and wouldn't perform well, others were extremely bright and would be stars, and a few were in a category where they would suddenly "spurt" and far exceed previous performance. Amazingly, or not, the results tended to match the teachers expectations.

Interestingly, the students who were predicted to perform poorly who did really well got a lot of negative comments from teachers. "Didn't know his place." "Tried to participate above his ability." You know, uppity.

I think expectations can play a big role. And, for blacks, there are very low expectations. I get so angry when I hear, "Oh, he did really well for a black man," or "Oh, she did really well for a woman." That's all bull(*)(*)(*)(*). Boy, she's really active for a 600-pound couch potato.

And, there are the plethora of experts. My son was pegged as not being able to read in the fifth-grade and sent to remedial reading classes. I knew the teacher and when I spoke to her she said, "I always thought he could read but apparently he can't." Well, yes, who are you going to believe, your own lying eyes or the expert. My son demonstrated a well above average reading ability and returned to normal classes.

One last thing. I have heard blacks telling other black kids that they're not "really black" and that they are trying to "act white". When I grew up I got the same thing but I was trying to "act like a Yankee". Yeh, I did things like finish my homework. The only way black students can resist the negative peer pressure is support at home and the government is doing their best to make sure that won't happen. Single parent homes are occasionally a necessity but they're not the best option. A boy needs a man to teach him.

Oh, and pretending there is no problem is not a solution. It just continues the preferred liberal strategy of low expectations and failure.

    You are very correct, PatrickT.

Especially when you say, "Single parent homes are occasionally a necessity but they're not the best option. A boy needs a man to teach him. Oh, and pretending there is no problem is not a solution. It just continues the preferred liberal strategy of low expectations and failure."

We used to be a constitutional republic. Today, given the amount we spend on entitlement programs, we more or less resemble a government-owned and government-operated plantation estate!

    Uncle Sam's Plantation 1939-2011

Democrats have been running our inner-cities for the past 30 to 40 years, and blacks are still complaining about the same problems. More than $7 trillion dollars have been spent on poverty programs since Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty with little, if any, impact on poverty. Diabolically, every election cycle, Democrats blame Republicans for the deplorable conditions in the inner-cities, then incite blacks to cast a protest vote against Republicans.

In order to break the Democrats' stranglehold on the black vote and free black Americans from the Democrat Party's economic plantation, we must shed the light of truth on the Democrats. We must demonstrate that the Democrat Party policies of socialism and dependency on government handouts offer the pathway to poverty, while Republican Party principles of hard work, personal responsibility, getting a good education and ownership of homes and small businesses offer the pathway to prosperity.

Adding insult to this revelation is the outing in Atlanta of a
teachers scam involving almost 200 teachers who outright
changed and doctored the tests of Atlanta's inner city blacks
to make it appear as if the Atlanta School system was doing a
really good job educating it's black youth. The way it was done
was teachers had little meetings at their homes and sat down
and went thru tests and changed wrong answers to correct ones.
It was done as if a Conspiracy,to make it appear Atlanta's black
students are at the top in academics in the country.

    Great question, P. Lotor!

    It seems we are.

    Please check this out.

Jackson talks about himself at these meetings. Once he told of his days as a waiter at the Jack Tar Hotel in his hom town of Greenville, S.C. Just before leaving the kitchen he would spit into the food of white patrons he hated and then smilingly serve it to them. He did this, he said, "because it gave me psychological gratification." It was something everybody in the audience understood.

My question is: Did big name Democrats who have shared a stage with Jesse Jackson condemn his racist behavior, and if not, should we call those big name Democrats racists, too? The liberals always tell us that silence more often than not signifies agreement and willful consent!

Bill Clinton, almost by mistake tried out an inner city education test
for black youth.Clinton had a few troubled inner city black schools
bus their students to poor Catholic Parishes where Nuns
still taught. Those poor Catholic Parochial schools were set to be closed.
The parochial school system is old-fashioned and requires all student
wear an identical uniform and show up on time to class and DO one's
    homework.No excuses.No talking back to the teachers/nuns.
The results were amazing.A total turnaround.Bill Clinton even had
to go around and profess the legitimacy of the import of standarized
education where a Uniform is a must,as is doing the homework
scheduled, not coming late to class and no back talk.
I just proved what it takes to succeed in the classroom.
it's as simple as a schoolmarm. As old as the hills.
It's all in the attitude. All it takes for Mother is a pencil & a pad
to help her child learn. This ludicrous Liberal idea'r that new Schools
    are needed is a crock.
    Like most things Liberals profess.

There is no excuse in this day and age for someone to be uneducated. So what if the schools don't spoon feed every ort of knowledge? There is this thing called the internet that almost everyone has access to. A curious mind can educate itself if it so desires. Schools primary purpose is to teach one that there is much to learn and to make knowledge available.. The rest is up to the individual. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

    NO MORE EXCUSES!!
