Genuine heroes are a rare breed which is why they are recognised with exemplary, and rarely given, awards.

You are correct on this; Clinton avoided the draft by whatever "legal" means were available at the time; there was no draft when Obama became of age since the draft was terminated years before. But yes, you are correct, Bush did serve more time in the military, whether it was on paper or actually putting boot to pavement.

Former President George W. Bush has been honored with the Anti-Defamation League’s highest award for his “inspirational leadership” in the face of the 9/11 terror attacks and his commitment to Israeli-Palestinian peace, the group announced Friday.

At a private dinner for the ADL’s national executive committee meeting at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla., Thursday night, the organization bestowed its “America’s Democratic Legacy Award” on Bush, whom the group also praised for establishing the United States’ first special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism.

"The best Middle Eastern policy starts with an alliance with the only democracy in the Middle East, and that is Israel,” Bush said in accepting the honor, according to an ADL statement. “The cornerstone of peace begins with an unshakable US-Israel alliance.”

Abraham Foxman, ADL national director, said that Bush’s “vision … of ‘two states, living side by side, in peace and security still informs our consciousness and our parlance today.”

“You solidified an unbreakable affinity between two democracies challenged by extremists and terrorists – and an ironclad shared understanding-- that security is one of the most important foundations for peace,” he said, according to a statement, adding: “You led a united American people through the trauma of an attack that in one day redefined our sense of security and our domestic and foreign policy.”

“When you were called on to respond to unspeakable terror, hate and violence, you refused to let America give into stereotypes. You answered calls for anti-Muslim revenge with calls for respect and understanding.”

Your "jihad" against him would have become a little more heated had he not invaded Iraq.

Israel would not have long tolerated an existential threat in Iraq which could have been unleashed at Saddam's whim.

Seems he's smarter than you if you can't understand something so elementary.

1991: Iraqi Scud missiles hit Israel

Iraq has attacked two Israeli cities with Scud missiles, prompting fears that Israel may be drawn into the Gulf War.
Israel's largest city, Tel Aviv, and Haifa, its main seaport, were hit in the attacks, which began at 0300 local time (0100 GMT), when most residents were asleep.

Reports from Tel Aviv say the air was filled with the wail of sirens and minutes later up to eight missiles streaked in and exploded in balls of flame.

Residents scrambled for protective clothing and gas masks, issued to most of the population before the conflict began.

Casualties are believed to have been light - nobody was killed, and only a few people injured.

It is the first time Tel Aviv has been hit in the history of the Israel-Arab conflict.

Chemical warhead

Initial reports that one of the missiles had a chemical warhead were quickly proved wrong.

Air raid sirens went off again this evening amid fears of a second Scud attack, but they were swiftly followed by an all-clear as it proved to be a false alarm.

Israel has the strongest military forces of any Middle Eastern country, and has said that any attack by Iraq would bring massive "punishment".

The American President, George Bush, issued an appeal to Israel to hold back from retaliation for the attack.

Allied commanders have been ordered to make special sorties to seek out and destroy Iraqi missile sites and mobile launchers which could threaten Israel, and Mr Bush emphasised his determination to protect Israel from further attack.

Emergency meeting

The Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Shamir, called an emergency meeting of the ministerial defence committee of senior ministers and military officers to decide Israel's response.

After the day-long meeting, the Foreign Minister, David Levy, told journalists no decision had yet been taken on whether to retaliate.

"Israel reserves the right to retaliate in the manner and with the scale and method of its own choosing," he said.

Any Israeli military action could break apart the multi-national coalition against Iraq by provoking the Arab members to withdraw their support.

Meanwhile, the Allied air bombardment of Iraqi military targets is continuing at the rate of 2,000 sorties a day.

Scuds with nerve gas. A city hit by these would suffer a breakdown in basic services and a government unable to protect their people from death would not last longer than a week.
