Europe’s highest court ruled on Tuesday that a widely used international agreement for moving people’s digital data between the European Union (EU) and the United States was invalid, reports The New York Times.

It will remain up to each EU member state to decide how much personal information can be transferred to the USA by American companies such as Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google. The Germans and French have already introduced restrictions and it did not help matters that the United States embassy in Berlin was found to be listening to Angela Merkel's phone calls. The English, in contrast, do whatever the Americans tell them.
