Speaking of SA's water crisis, this article I saw today reminded me of something I saw when I was in SA. See the water truck there in the front of the picture? And see the terraces there on the hill behind the shanty town? The terraces were part of a project the SA government implemented about a decade ago. They brought in heavy equipment and plows in order to create plots of farmable land that the shantytown resident could sow and tend in order produce at least a portion of their own food. They dug wells and installed pumps for irrigating the crops and providing water for the residents too. They did these projects at dozens of shanty town settlements. No crops were ever grown. NOTHING was ever sown, and NOTHING was ever reaped. The shanty town residents sold all the seeds they were given for a quick buck, and they did they same to the well water pumps- they tore them out, and sold them for some sweet fast cash. So in that picture you see the results of the "self sufficiency" project. Barren garden terraces, water being delivered by a truck, and shanty town dwellers that are pissed off at the government for not giving them more free stuff.
No it's not, it's caused by 150 000 tonnes of sewage leaking into the river systems EVERY DAY, and leaking water pipes, (up to 45% of water is lost through leaky pipes) no maintenance was carried out in 20 years of liberation https://www.iol.co.za/saturday-star/news/sewage-infested-vaal-river-is-the-states-fault-16839490
The ANC government stole an estimated R700 billion Rand over 20 years, some estimate that if the money was spent where it was suppose to go unemployment would sit at 12% and 70% of squatters camps would have be replaced by housing. Of course the irony is completely missed by the leftwingers demanding whites return stolen land, at least the land was turned into productive food producing entities that feeds all. The R700 billion is wasted by a tiny ANC elite.
