I know right! How can so many people misunderstand such a peaceful religion? We should be taking a firm stance with mosques in our countries as well. If they preach terrorist propaganda, shut them down. Enforce our existing sedition laws.
This thread is a real triumph of the Islamophobes over that of common sense. <<< MOD EDIT: REMOVED MODIFIED USER NAMES >>> Trying looking up recent history and you will see that in the recent past Algeria had a civil war between the Islamists and the moderate Muslim authorities in which the Islamists carried out massacres of whole villages and neighborhoods of innocent Muslim men, women and children and who were eventually defeated. The said authorities are understandably nervous about another upswing in Islamist teachings. I agree wholeheartedly that the Islamists are to be thwarted and hunted wherever they are and I did so before 9/11 because of their generally vile behavior and ideology (I'd even heard of the Taliban only a year after they were created by Pakistan's ISI). To confuse this rotten branch of Islam with the rest of the religion is incredibly stupid - I have no desire to go to war with 20% of the people on this planet and I wouldn't have thought any sane individual would want to either. The lesson of 9/11 and European racism hardening Muslim attitudes in Europe is that the sheep have to be separated from the goats and then the goats have to be slaughtered. The Islamists are at most 5% of the total Muslim population (and probably quite a bit less than that), but if Islamophobia creates an "us or them" mentality then the situation could change fairly rapidly. Think of the Muslims as Socialists and the Islamists as Communists. You aren't going to like the Socialists and you will dislike some of their doings but you can certainly coexist with them, whereas the Communists are definitely an eternal enemy. That's the metaphor to keep in mind when dealing with Islam, along with the eternal conundrum of Israel (a hot poker permanently wedged into the backside of the Muslim world).

Maybe because the violent people were SECRETLY using the mosque as cover so the regular church-goers never knew?? Just like America's violent Christian groups hide themselves among regular Christian congregations.

Who is saying to "ignore Islamists"? But 95% are just fine people, and indeed, excellent allies in this war, people who we would vastly prefer NOT to turn into enemies by the kinds of hate-filled evil actions advocated by the Islamophobes. What war are you talking about? There is no real threat to America from overseas. The only threat is the American left and the war is at home.
Let me try this again using small words. We do not need to go to war with Islam - we need to go to war with the Islamists. The best way to do this is make the non-Islamist Muslims despise the Islamists - the worst way to do this is to push the non-Islamist Muslims into the arms of the Islamists by being too Islamophobic. We definitely DO NOT want to ignore the Islamists: they are a dangerous blot on the human race. We DO need to be smart on how we tackle the Islamist threat, or our efforts will be counter-productive (ten take the place of each one who falls).
There's no such thing as a "peaceful religion" - For most muslims it means inner peace - peace with their god. Not peace between people. There's no peace within Judaism nor in Christianity where the message of the "Prince of Peace " fell on deaf ears, evidence Catholics/Protestant wars - latest in Northern Ireland etc., Even blood brothers from within the same family have been known to be in violent opposition to each other irrespective of religion. The only place you'll find Peace is under your tombstone marked - R.I.P. Shalom . .....
G-A-U-D-A works fine. I am sure the Algerian civil war is over, and like in most cases they turn to Islamic Jihad after the dust has settled
