I don't totally disagree with you here. There definitely is a contingent that takes advantage of their elevated status. This occurs any time there is elevated status. Teachers take advantage of pupils, supervisors take advantage of the supervised, doctors and counselors take advantage of patients. Even parents take advantage of their children.

You're describing something as though it's unique to religion but it's pretty ubiquitous and social hierarchy in general.

That's no reason to withdraw from a community.

It really the main purpose of worshiping together is to have a community. It's less important now because you can have a friend group that includes atheist people and Christian people and Hindus and Muslims and Jews and it's all okay there may not even be any attention on the basis of religion. Sorry religious based community is not as important particularly in our society.
Again that's a facet of social hierarchy in general. Have you ever come across one of those marketing advertisements for some sort of medicinal concoction that will treat some ailment you didn't even know you had? And then you'll find out the person selling it to you wearing the lab coat with the stethoscope and his name embroidered on the lab coat and looks real doctor it's just a chiropractor?

We place hierarchy in that symbol and because of such there are people that will take advantage of others by selling them overpriced snake oil.

This is a completely secular realm of things it's a facet of society not really a religion.

Religion in the Free world at least seems to be largely self-regulated so they can cover up and even remain invisible to people who would call them out on this.

That's was Great Britain's response. So they came to know and understand defeat as their God.

They condescendingly viewed the Declaration of Independence as the rhetoric of disgruntled upstarts, proclaiming in response that none are created equal, thus dismissing and bullying God and boasting the natural order. So paying no heed to reason in peacetime, they were served defeat in war. THAT they understood.

Alone, or in a group, whatever works.

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

it was written by an apostle, not by Christ
    apostles are not authorities
moreover, they wrote in such a way that any church can be founded

They wrote what Christ said. That is part of the 'red letter' text.

So, you don't trust what the Bible teaches. Fine. To each his own.

In the US you can do what works for you as long as you don’t violate the rights of others.
    Enjoy!
