...altered states of consciousness, and then the burocrats and seekers of power and control interject themselves, corrupting the religion that arose from these altered states, or alternative states of consciousness.

These states can arise naturally when the brain produces higher levels of DMT, which can happen in a few people, or they can be produced by the consumption of the sacred plants, says Graham Hancock, who has written about it, and references various men like Terrence McKinna and Dr. Strassman, who did research on DMT, funded by our gov't. Strassman, after his research project thinks that these states where people see a commonality of beings, gods, is not a hallucination, but the brain being able to tune in to a different dimension.

If we find out, that indeed these sacred plants can allow the human brain to tune into a different dimension, and that indeed these beings are real, how would this change your religious beliefs? But more to the point, could a conditioned brain ever accept the fact, if it turns out to be a fact? Personally, I think that most true believers, could never accept it, but what do you think? Is the power of a conditioned belief, more powerful than the Truth? And if it is, what does that really say about the danger of conditioned beliefs? For this would pertain to all sorts of beliefs, notably political ideological beliefs. The implication of this are MONUMENTAL, don't you think?

surely religions (superstitions) are our primitive way of explaining stuff we didn't understand.

no altered states needed, just 'magic made the night go away!'.
