He's an idiot............... An American-born jihadist in Somalia has said in an online video that he fears his fellow al-Shabab militants may kill him over a difference of opinion. Omar Hammami, who grew up in the southern U.S. state of Alabama and now is known as Abu Mansur al-Amriki, is shown in a black robe and white head scarf, in front of a black flag. In a mix of Arabic and English, Hammami says that he fears his life may be in danger due to disagreements with his comrades over Sharia law and strategy. Hammami is an American citizen who was indicted in Alabama in 2007 and 2009 on federal terrorism violations. He is accused of leaving the U.S. to join the Somalia-based al-Shabab, which the U.S. has named as a terrorist organization.

Is it because: 1. He converted to Islam 2. Went to Somalia 3. Joined an islamist terrorist organization 4. Believed democracy, freedom of speech and plurality of opinion are supported by Islam and Sharia law 5. All of the above.
Young people have been converting to cults for a very long time. It would seem he chose poorly. Reading between the lines, I see he got married along the way, and has fathered a son. (I suspect his allowance from home ran out as well - another sobering experience.) I would hazard a guess he got to wondering -perhaps out-loud-what part of Sharia supports the murder, pillaging, and harassment of fellow Muslims.
This guy reminds me of all the "useful idiots" of the 1920s and 1930s who were Communists but who had no idea what Stalinist Russia was really like. It's hard to see the writing on the wall when you screw your eyes shut as tight as you can so you can dream a little dream.
This has happened before. When you play with fire, eventually you're going to get burned. Hopefully these useful idiots will serve as a warning to other would-be Islamic converts to jihad.
