More people in the U.S. align themselves with conservative principals, yet the liberals seem to speak the loudest. This is why: The mainstream media is mostly liberal, and most of Hollywood is liberal. Obama won the last election because Romney was not conservative enough and many Republicans stayed home. Conservatives are sick of the Republican establishment. It just amazes me how the minority leads the majority in this country. Conservatives, you had better start voting in elections...all of them...local, city, state and federal.

Exactly. Romney lost because he was too liberal. If you a want a liberal, why not just vote Obama? And if you don't want a liberal, well, there was noone to vote for. And then the media tells us the GOP lost because it's been taken over by "extreme right wingers". Where the hell were they during the primary? People were scared that a conservative would be bashed by the media, and Romney was supposed to avoid that. While simultaneously handing the election to the Democrats. Conservatives need to find their nuts. That's a sad thing to say, but the libs are staying true to their principles, while the conservatives have gotten all wishy-washy. One thing should be clear: the US doesn't need two liberal parties, and the GOP will never beat the Democrats at their own game (and why should it want to?) But Republicans need to walk the walk when elected. That's another reason they can't get out the vote: people are coming to the realization that the GOP talks a good game, but doesn't follow it up. And one last point: when Republican politicians aren't liberal, they often aren't conservative either. And I'm not talking about moderates. I'm talking about neo-cons. The people are paleo-conservative, not neo-con, and there is very little common ground between the two.

Americans call themselves conservative but only because they don't really understand what the term means.

Shall we break it down into specifics? Like how a slight majority call themselves "pro-life" but the huge majority don't want to see Roe v Wade overturned?

Yes, Romney was not a Conservative. He was not a good candidate to run. The establishment GOP is losing ground because demographics are changing in America, and they are not willing to change with it, for good reason in my opinion. The Tea Party folks are the true Conservatives, and should have more support in this country, but there are too many folks dependent on Uncle Sam to support their agenda. This country is slipping away. The media has a big part in all of this too, as they are most certainly in bed with liberalism.

Go ahead. The poll shows what it shows. If we use your logic, then if people knew more about the conservative viewpoint, there would be more of them.

Most of America is moderate. You are sliding away into la la land.

When we see people acting outraged and incoherent, reduced to insults and petty attacks we get turned off.

    Try something else....

The US has always been predominately center-right. That may have moved a bit leftward, but the primary change, imo, is the the two major parties have been captured by their extremes. Republicans feel that they have to take into account the wishes of the far right, and Democrats have to bow to the far left.

That leaves many of us in the middle without a party to call our own.

Right on the money. The US used to be right of center. Not anymore.

Hispanics prefer the Democratic Party. In the future they are going to be THE SWING VOTE. Whites will be a minority in the US. Today White children under the age of 3 are the minority.

    http://www.livescience.com/20467-minority-babies-outnumber-whites.html

The combination of Blacks, Hispanics and Asians combined will outnumber Whites. With Hispanics being the biggest group of all. So Hispanics will decide all future elections. And since they vote Democrat, the left will win again and again.
