I would like to explore the possibility that personality trait of authoritarianism is behind the rise of Donald Trump. I am more interested Authoritarianism as a root cause of both Trump, and political polarization, rather than Trump himself.
IMO Trump might be a reaction against the rising authoritarianism of the Republicans as manifested in people like Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee, as the GOP has become increasingly under the sway of the Dominionists, whose ideology is blatantly authoritarian
