    https://www.cruisemapper.com/wiki/758-cruise-ship-registry-flags-of-convenience-flag-state-control

There are 384 cruise ships listed on cruisemapper.com. Of 384 cruise ships, there are 23 flying the American Flag and 361 flying foreign flags. Cruise companies are multi-billion dollar companies many times over. Yet Trump is asking American poor and middle class to bail them out and to support their losses during the Corona Virus pandemic.

So much for the Constitution, conservatism, and the Republican Party.

The luxury of ideology must be set aside for pragmatism .Desperate times that conservatism cannot work to try to avoid a huge crash call for setting ideology aside . The country cannot afford ideological driven solutions and trump is smart enough to see this.

Yeah, let's set aside the entire American experiment for pragmatism. Let's surrender the Constitution for pragmatism. Ideals, ethics, and principles only matter when convenient. When it's difficult we'll just throw them out for pragmatism. All of those middle class that are getting the 1000 dollar checks will never realize that they and their children will pay far, far, more in taxes to the foreign corporations than they'll get in bribes.... Those bills have to be paid.

Early in the pandemic, cruise ships were refusing to give refunds for people cancelling cruises. And now they want us to bail them out. If businesses didn't have business interruption insurance that covered pandemics then let them go under. We've been through too-big-to-fail before. Same thing for those getting the thousand dollar checks. If they didn't save for emergencies then it's going to be a hard few months.

Churches, communities, friends, family, local charities, can set up soup lines and keep them fed. They can declare bankruptcy. Why should I, who have been well prepared for over half a century, have to pay for those who didn't prepare for a thing?

I agree with you and am sad to see Trump buckle to the pressure. When we said America First, we literally meant America First. Come high water or hell. But this is just the first of many such news links to come, and while I'm sad we're here the other factor is the theorists in lab coats and mathematicians.

They thought this theory could work and with little consequence. Well the consequences aren't little and this theory isn't working.

    Here's why they don't.

Here's why who doesn't do what?

I'll go with the assumption you're saying your post explains why cruise ship owners flag their ships outside of the United States is because they're made outside of the United States.

Well, the largest number of flagged ships is in Bahamas but no ships are built in the Bahamas so there's zero correlation between where the ship is made and where it's flagged.

The reason ships are flagged in other countries is to skirt the finance, tax, and employment laws of the countries where the shareholders live. Cruise ship operators skirt US employment laws by flagging their ships in Bahamas and yet now they want US workers - scorned by those cruise ship companies - to bail them out.

It does seem kinda like what Obummer did. So Trump may be turning into a leftist Socialist and that would be VERY bad

I'm not justifying why they register outside the US, I am just telling you why. I do agree that they need to get help from the country that they are flagged.
