Crazy article, by a Vietnam sniper. The man who wrote this is not a liberal, at least I don't think he is, while he is anti war, he is very pro 2nd amendment, and he works in intelligence. Knowing this, does he get a pass for not thinking snipers are heros? Him being a former sniper has to give his opinion some merit, wouldn't it? Here is a link to the full article: http://www.veteranstoday.com/2015/01/21/sniper-mythology-and-other-tales-of-horror/
"In truth, the US was in South Vietnam illegally and on the wrong side in the first place so any moral high ground disappears immediately anyway. So, if you were a sniper killing the enemy, one thing for certain, you were shooting people better than you are." "The pro-Vietnam war bull(*)(*)(*)(*)ters began creeping out of the woodwork during the Reagan administration with the vast majority of them Bush/Romney type blowhards, Chickenhawks and phonies." "War is about thugs with guns working for banks and oil companies, for drug cartels and crooked politicians." "Simply put, if you leave the US and kill a citizen of another country because George W. Bush and Dick Cheney or their friend Netanyahu makes a buck from it and you consider yourself a hero instead of a fool or criminal, talking to you isnt going to help." Yeah, he's definitely not a liberal... ...and reading his bio and that whole article, he seems to be more than just physically disabled. That's fine that he gets a forum for his views and he deserves one given his service and sacrifice, but that doesn't make what he says accurate, It doesn't take a combat vet who knows all the right slang and anecdotes to know that VN is a hilly jungle and the ME is a flat desert, making the prospective deployment of snipers vastly more useful in one environment than the other.
What's the difference between shooting a guy from a distance, and seeing the whites of the eyes of the guy you plug? War is murder no matter who's doing it, and no matter how they're going about it.
