We have seen a lot of news both from MSM media and with MAGA media that includes this phrase. But, I was thinking, we can now pretty much determine how reliable these "anonymous sources" are by looking at who is using them. The latest example being the Trump tapes. Weeks ago, the press posted that "anonymous sources" spoke about a tape in which Trump appears to be waving around what he describes as "classified documents". Whether they were actual documents (as he claimed on the tape), or a newspaper article (like he claims now) is irrelevant. The fact that he TALKED about classified information is enough, in and of itself, to land him in prison for at least 3 years. But what is relevant to this thread is that "anonymous sources" from serious media like WaPo, NYT, NBC, ... etc... have been spot on for many years. For example, we knew first learned contacts between the Trump campaign and Russia propagandists (collusion) from Anonymous sources. Later, George Papadopoulos confessed to having contacted a Russian spy, and Mueller revealed details about Donald Jr's contacts with Putin envoys at Trump tower. We also first learned about Hillary's server from anonymous sources. On the other hand MAGA media like Fox, Breitbart, NYP, .. have used "anonymous sources" to break news such as Dominion manipulating election results, or the Clintons' envolvement in Seth Rich's death, or about "evidence" that Obama was born in Kenya .... the list is endless. ALL proven to be completely fabricated. So I think there is parameter here that we need to use. We know that when we cite news like these, we'll get four or five right-wing posters saying "Anonymous sources? You can't believe them" And I understand the feeling because they are used to the MAGA media where "anonymous sources" means "we just pulled this out of our arse". However, there is media where we can pretty much trust that the sources have been vetted. And this means that people who understand the difference are way ahead on being informed, then those who can't tell the difference.
Just look at all the posts about Joe and Hunter Biden. The Rs on this forum have jumped up and down and declared victory over information that has not yet been confirmed. Audio tapes, confidential witnesses. They only wish that the proof could be out there and would have no trouble revealing it to the public. But now that we have an audio tape of Trump doing exactly what the anonymous sources have claimed, they are freaking out that it wasn't right for the tape to be revealed to the public.
You mean like the Russia Hoax? Except these issues actually have some credibility. You guys and your double standards. How cute!
And the worst part about that is that the "anonymous sources" are cited by the same folk who brought you dominion-machines and birtherism. I mean... even a broken clock is right two times a day, but these people are spewing this as if it were on the Biblical text. They are so used to making fools of themselves that... what is one more time?
This is a great example. We knew the Trump campaign colluded with Russia in 2016 even before Trump campaign officials who participated in it confessed. So all they can do now is deny reality. I'm not bothering with this anymore. I think "anonymous sources", when they are quoted by SERIOUS media has proven their worth. And the same, but coming from the MAGA media have also proven themselves completely bogus. From now on, if I ever do respond to some absurd comment about "anonymous sources", either from serious media or MAGA media, I'll just point to this explanation to point out the difference.
So your circular arguments and using your own opinion as 'proof', again, will just make most grin and move on.
The tape is real. Court rulings are real. Documents are real.... What can a faithful MAGA do against all of that evidence? Why.... deny reality, of course! Oh! But, of course. Don't do it by quoting the "opinion" you are talking about. Because... you know... maybe they won't notice you are desperately grasping at straws and maybe even.... if a gullible MAGA happens to read it... believe that you said something relevant.
