So I have a friend of mine who spent a year abroad ('12-'13) in Germany and ended up getting with Russian boyfriend. She told me that as of late there is a new wave of antisemitism in Eastern Europe with attempts at institutionalizing anti-Jewish measures, as well as multiple petitions to remove Soviet war memorials in ex-Soviet states. I found this link from 2007 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6255051.stm

As someone who has never left "the west" I ask any one from the region, is this a common/growing thing? I understand that the Soviets committed atrocities that coincided with what the Nazis were doing at the time, I fully empathize with anti-Soviet/Communist sentiment, but it's well established that the USSR played the lead role in defeating the fascists. Is this motivated more by general resentment over Stalinist crimes, or is this politically motivated by the far right and does it overlap with new antisemitism, what are your opinions?
