Because they also carry badges and have ID's...just sayin'...

I think the point to all of this is that someone at Denny's attempted to push an anti-gun view point. Fine, their business, but as has been pointed out, a rather stupid one...but then again anti-gun goons aren't noted for their intelligence or common sense.

if I take a trip by plane and I see a gun it makes me nervous, should we ban them?

if you carry a gun keep it hidden, people don't want to see it, it makes some people nervous

I think everyone should be able to own a gun, but I do not think people need to advertise the fact they have one, someone walks into a bank with cowboy style guns on em, gonna make some kinda nervous, let alone if they are carrying a riffle

In some jurisdictions that behaviour amounts to a breach of the peace. Bloody queue jumpers.

Well, they could lock the guns in the car with the ammo locked in the trunk like they make people in California do. Don't they believe in equality?

I agree the manager on this, but let me explain why :p

On private property its owners should be able to set whatever conditions of entry they want. This is a move toward reasonable gun policy.

To say that this man must accept police with guns into his store is big government interfering with the liberty of the store owner. Cops have no right to enter your premises, why should this be any different than me deciding I don't want visitors bringing guns into my house? That's a perfectly reasonable requirement, but only when it's on private land!

On public land the Federal government should stay completely out of it, and the states should have constitutional carry a la Vermont.

I never suggested a property owner must accept anything. I said, as the title of my thread indicates, that this is yet another case of "anti-gun hysteria gone too far."

But that a business proposes to ban armed police officers from its premises is preposterous.

Where did you read there was a "Denny's mandate?" I read that this was a decision of a manager in a single location.

This is awfully disturbing. The bad guys can commit crimes like a hold up now and the police can only tazer them?

Well I tell you, if the NRA has their way as they gave VP Biden, a lesson on our 2nd amendment rights today, hopefully Denny's will rethink their patrons safety.

Police are to protect and serve and if they are denied their weapons they are in for some harsh reality when mr crazy gunman enters the premises.

Certainly. I am not disputing the establishment's right to do anything. And again, not really the topic here.

Maybe. Maybe not. Though, quite irrelevant to this topic.

And again, I am not disputing that. Please read the title of this thread and tell me if you think your comment above is germane to the discussion.

Re-read the news story. Get the facts before you post.

Of course. But again, not the topic.

In the U.S., police officers are required to carry at all times while on duty, and permitted (generally encouraged) to carry off-duty. The only real exception to the off-duty carry rule is on an airplane.

I can guarantee you they knew these guys were cops. This is a small town. Cops are regulars in places like Denny's. And these cops were most likely dressed like detectives--off-the-rack suits or business casual. I can guarantee you they were not covered in neck tats. If I saw a guy in an off-the-rack suit wearing a sidearm in a holster, I'd assume he was a cop and go back to my crossword puzzle. If, OTOH, I saw some dirtbag with full sleeves prison ink and a gatt stuffed in the waistband of his sagging jeans, yeah, I'd get a little nervous. But to suggest that police officers present a threat while you're scarfing down a Grand Slam is assinine. Hence the title of the thread.

Its not preposterous. Its one individual deciding what he thinks is best for his store. It doesn't matter what his motives are, its that he has decided this. I'm curious to see if it has any lasting effect on the store, but unless a criminal walks in while the Cops are actually in the store (statistically unlikely) it won't really make much of a difference.

Armed police officers represent no threat. Therefore, asking them to leave your establishment is the very definition of preposterous.

Just because you say its so, doesn't make it so. Some people don't hold guns on this 'pedestal' that some do. Some people (this Denny's owner) prefer them not to be in their place of business.

I think it's a bit silly, but his customers probably don't. If it gets him profit then who's to argue with that? The market has spoken.

It's all about giving consumers choice. If enough people feel strongly about guns then quite rightly the places they go to will adopt the relevant policies, because these policies are a commodity just like the meals they provide. As far as I'm concerned Denny's adopting this policy is no different than you or I deciding that we don't want guns in our houses.

And yeah, it is kinda preposterous that people want this - I just think we should direct it at consumers not this fast food chain/its manager (We don't have Denny's in Australia)

you really need to either go back and bother to read the article or work on your reading comprehension. this jag off manager of a corporate owned restaurant was making up policy for the corporation as he went along.
