All my friends smoke or drink, or enjoy coffee. We all enjoy marijuana from time to time (I have too many black friends)...

Which are triggers for me for lighting up a cig. I have traded my morning and afternoon coffees for Energy Drinks which don't make me want to smoke. Haven't had weed in a few days, and am afraid to give myself a buzz on weekends for fear of wanting a smoke.

All in all, I fudge up once or twice a day and bum a smoke off of someone...

but, I must say I am impressed at how simply sharing this on a stupid internet forum seems to add a bit of help to the situation.

What you have managed so far is on willpower alone, which isn't bad, considering alternative ways that haven't been used.

What you have going for you is the knowledge that you haven't smoked for x hours, so another hour without smoking is easily attainable. When you reach that goal and look back, it's a further hour down the road and an incentive for the next hour - and so on.

I could be on the next flight with an offer of mouth to mouth.

    You'd better be smoking hot.

Another one of your mistypes? I gave up the pot for the conventional toilet even though according to some I have never reached maturity.

P.S. Am I still despicable or has your viewpoint changed for the worst?

I still find racists despicable, yes. But I'm pleased to know I might see you in the toilet.

To satv365: I started smoking as a kid during WWII when candy stores sold “loosies.” A two cent deposit on a small soda bottle bought me two loosies. Stores, especially the ones closest to the schools, always had five or six open packs; Camels, Lucky Strike, Chesterfield, etc.

NOTE: In those days cigarettes sold for ten cents a pack; whereas, loosies earned the seller twenty cents. During my travels I noticed that street venders in poor countries sell loosies from push carts.

I enjoyed smoking and never had a moral conflict about quitting. I never wanted to quit. About 10 years ago my sinuses went berserk. I was getting a lot of phlegm along with a mild ache. For about 8 or 9 years I would stop smoking when my sinuses acted up. I wouldn’t smoke for months on end. Then I would smoke again for a month or so until the sinuses acted up again.

I have not smoked for a year for reasons that have nothing to do with smoking. I probably will not smoke again with one caveat. If I know for sure that I have a short time to live I intend to go out smoking like a chimney.

Let me close by saying that I enjoyed every cigarette I ever smoked. I still believe that the psychological benefits that come with smoking are vastly underrated and under-reported. I also believe that harmful smoking is genetic. Some of us can smoke some can’t. It’s the same with drinking alcoholic beverages. Some can drink a lot, others are alcoholics who can’t handle a beer.

A big AMEN to that statement. My mom smoked until she was 78, gave it up and lived to be 89. I got scared when I came down with a stubborn case of bronchitis and quit on advice from my doctor.

But if they told me I only had 6 months to live, I'd be smoking like a chimney. I still miss analog cigs... but the electronics do help me get thru it. And I agree, it's nice to be able to pull one out anyplace and have a few puffs. I carry a spare in my purse... just in case of battery failure. ;)

I coughed and hacked for the whole 25 years I smoked...constant bronchitus...but when I quit I went into a deep terrible depression.

Several years ago I went to the nicotine lozenges. When I started getting early lines around my mouth I switched to the patch---which works great. And some mornings.....I forget to put it on. So finally I'm started in the right direction.

The patched didn't work for me years back when I tried....at the time I needed the immediate relief that cigs and lozenges have. Now I don't need that.

Nicotine replacement isn't the healthiest alternative to smoking but it keeps a person from getting emphasema...which is a frightening disease to watch someone go through.

To Smartmouthwoman: Welcome to the Smack Stack Club. So far there are only two of us, but I’m thinking about asking the tobacco industry to subsidize our activities?

LOL, I'm afraid it won't be the tobacco industry who supports us -- they HATE e-cigs... cuts into their business! ;)

The e-cigs have varying doses of nicotine, CKW. If you haven't tried 'em, I'd highly recommend you do. Try the N-Joys or Blu's -- both avail at your local Walgreens.

Interesting... when you smoked for 20 yrs, it was fine... but since you quit, it's a disgusting filthy habit and you can't stand to be around other smokers. That's the exact same way you seem to feel about religion... it was fine when you believed, but now that you don't, anyone who does is stupid.

    See a pattern here?

No, it was a disgusting, filthy habit when I smoked too, which is one of the reasons I quit.

Yes. the pattern I see is your posts utter inability to actually address a topic and instead resort to immature and incredibly petty personal attacks due to your posts one consistency, that being incorrect.

Bet you were a nicer person when you smoked. Some people get real grouchy w/o cigs...
