I know I'm weird but seriously, I can't get my panties bunched up over a <4% chance of death if you're over 70 and I'm not even over 70. Seeing all of these people, or types of people, that I used to have issues with due to their excessive cry-bullying now panicking, buying up all the toilet paper and the bravest they get is to root for plague and economic recession. Meanwhile I'm just like:

I'm finding it weirdly refreshing to see the men separated from the boys here. A guy on another forum I frequent described some of these panicking types as "bitch-made ****s" and I was like wow, that's catchy.

True, I've lost a lot of money and may lose more still but it's not going to require me to radically change my life. I can keep on going normally through this fairly small chance of death. Others can't. For the first time in my life I'm feeling justified to write them off. It's a real silver lining, as if I've been freed from something.

For old people, it's more 15/30 % as far as I heard, but nothing is consistant with that.

You only seems to care about your own life. I don't fear that much my own death, more the consequence of it. I don't think I panicked over it, but I'm rather worried because there is a bunch of old people around me and they're quite fragile.

Reminds me of the idiots, buying TP by the boatload. His is just an opinion, while these panic buyers, actually effect me and mine. 5 trips to the store, to FINALLY buy some TP, over the last, 4 days. I hold the media, culpable for the panic buying.

I think that the most delicious irony for TP panic buyer is that they end in crowd, crowds, the perfect thing to get a virus.

It's interesting also that apparently many people don't know what to buy and buy short-life food, such eggs in mass.

It depend where you live, but in France, we have started to be confined, Macron, announced it yesterday, the government was lying one week ago by claiming everything was fine. I really doubt you can trust what the government is saying in many countries.
However, we can still go buy our things to the store.

Ok...how do you go to the store when the Gov is confining folks? I otherwise "like" your post.

Here in Florida, we are used to panic buying, on account of hurricanes but it has never induced empty TP shelves.

Well, Macron spoke today and it was very frustrating because he gave very few concrete details and said a lot of hollow things, as usual, he asked people to stay at home but we're allowed to buy food when we need it.

I'm not hoarding but where I used to go to my local store daily, I'm stocking up for about one week. It's a good idea to "social distance" even though no confirmed cases, in my town.

Okay, I know a little bit more now, but you have to print an authorization apparently to go out.

Yikes!!! None of that here! We are fairly rural and spread out, 30 miles to the nearest town!

That's fine, I love reading, writting, chanting, I'm learning drawing. Right now, I'm a little bit worried for the people I love, but I'm in a good mood because I have some sun and I can consecrate myself to the things I love the most. I'm more the kind of people fleeing noise and agitation.

Great to learn drawing. I was a professional tattoo artist in my youth, until I just stopped feeling it. Due to my welding and fabrication, I have an interest in obtaining more skill in technical drawings and blueprints.

I have over 60 tattoos (many I did on myself) but in today's age of "superbugs" I find any breaking of the skin (outside of necessary proceedures) to be foolish.

It's very clear from peoples behaviors at the grocery market that should things get worse it's every man for themself. No one cares about anyone else, that's what hoarding is.. and shows the character of the American people

In Britain they are demanding that anyone over age 70 remain at home for the next three months, but I haven't seen any information regarding how they are supposed to stay alive behind closed doors. Are deliveries going to be made to them? Is the government going to give them food and pay their utilities? So forth and so on.

Inside the United States the governors are independently making decisions for their states -- which is their right and duty -- but in no cases does it seemed to have been thought through -- or at least that is the impression we are receiving.

There were similar troubles here in France. I think it's troubles that you find in most countries, excepted a few ones. I opened a whole thread about a global collapse a few month ago, I'm not sure that this crisis would be the big collapse, but that's a few years I don't have any trust in the viability of this civilization, so I'm not extremly shocked about that. Unfortunately, I'm crippled and so completely dependant of the state.

I remember a sentence about the collapse of complexe systems, basically it said that more a system become complexe, the more it become efficient but also fragile, as a local trouble could lead to a general dysfunction, this sentence said something like
"complexe system collapse because of an unpredictable event which had predictable causes".

I didn't find the panic-buying at all refreshing yesterday when I went the store and there were no eggs on the shelf.

Normally, I shop the weekly sale flyers and go to two stores to pick up their best deals. I was planning to just stay home for a couple of weeks until I realized I needed eggs. The store I went to was advertising a good price on eggs, bottled water and fresh carrots on sale. None of those items were available.

People had bought most everything in fresh produce, canned goods, cereals, frozen vegetables, chips and snacks.....and the eggs. I did get 2 whole chickens at 49 cents per pound. They were still frozen, so the meat department must have put them out right before I got there else I probably wouldn't have had those.

When "normal" people run out of toilet paper and other necessary items and can't get more because of the hoarders, there will be problems. Hopefully the panic is a short phase. I heard on the radio that people in Michigan are breaking into houses and blaming it on the stores being empty.

No city in the world, including Wuhan, shut down grocery stores during a lockdown. It would be stupid to let people die of starvation to stop a virus which isn't lethal to the majority.

The main thing good to come out of this situation is to show that it is not markets or capital that are important, but simply people and health.
That the lesson is taken to heart remains to be seen.
It is telling to see that the rush was to provide vast sums to banks before they even sneezed while healthcare remains out of reach for so many.

The Austin school district extended Spring Break to a total of 3 weeks yesterday. In the press conference, it was mentioned that they have been providing 75,000 free meals per day to the students and will continue to do so....but we don't know how.

The San Francisco Bay Area locked down 7 Million people yesterday for 3 months, and can only go out for food and medicine without permission. Congress has not made a plan yet for how people get relief to pay monthly bills or money for food.

The last thing we need is a run on the banks where they close and shut down the ATM's, and people can't access their money.

Obviously these political dreams and schemes are going to have to be modified as reality finally strikes home. Even in times of disaster people still have to pay bills, which means go . . . to . . . work.

I checked the replies to Pelosi's Twitter message about staying home. People don't know what they are supposed to do if they don't have money today. They made the announcement yesterday, and the lockdown started today. People are unprepared.

Most cities are saying that landlords can't evict people for non-payment and municipal utilities are saying they won't shut down service for non-payment, so people can keep a roof over their heads and the power on, but there's a lot more to consider than that.

At least, San Francisco managed to find shelter to house thousands of homeless people to get them off the streets. Interesting that it took a pandemic before they suddenly had an overnight solution.

I find nothing refreshing about the baying jackals who are stacking up the victims of the pandemic to use as a pulpit from which to spout their silly political grievances.

It's nothing but disgusting when the mask slips, and you see the real faces of the monsters.

Nobody knows. You can calculate the death rate without knowing the number of infections. We will never know the number of infections.

Yes by the way, but it has also to be account that some people don't die because they have breath assistance, and the tools for that aren't in unlimited quantities, so basically, the death rate would differ depending on the availaible breath assistance.
